Myroslava Zelenchuk captured the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Women's Central Regional Singles Main Consolation Championship Sunday afternoon at the Hawkeye Tennis Recreation Complex. Zelenchuk, a freshman from Lviv, Ukraine, is the first Redhawk in program history to secure an ITA regional singles title. Sunday in the Championship final, Zelenchuk battled past Ioana Gheorghita, the #2 seed from Kansas State, 6-2, 0-6, 10-8, for the title. Zelenchuk fought past Nebraska's Jillian Roa, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6, Sunday morning in the semifinals to secure a berth in the championship final. Zelenchuk opened the consolation bracket with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Katherine Krueger of Creighton in the round of 32s Friday. Zelenchuk then beat Emily Surcey of Arkansas State, 6-2, 6-3, in the round of 16s Saturday. Zelenchuk also cruised past Ekin Ercetin of Minnesota, 6-4, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.
