Southeast Missouri senior outfielder Derek Gibson was named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week. Gibson hit .636 with four runs scored, a double, triple and six RBI to lead the Redhawks to a three-game league-opening sweep of Belmont. He went 3-for-4 with two RBI in game two and followed that up with a 3-for-4, four-RBI performance during Sunday's finale. He also singled and scored two runs in game one. He was the designated hitter in all three games and saw little playing time at left field in game three against the Bruins.
