Southeast Missouri point guard Phillip Russell was named Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week Monday. A native of St. Louis, Russell averaged 17 points, 2.5 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals in four starts last week. He shot 51.3 percent (20-of-39) from the field and 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from 3-point range en route to four double-digit scoring performances. Russell opened the week by scoring 18 points vs. Missouri Baptist (Nov. 22). He then dropped in 10 points at Incarnate Word (Nov. 26) before adding 19 (vs. Portland, Nov. 27) and 21 points (Nov. 28, vs. Montana State), respectively. Russell's 21 points against Montana State marked a career-high. He has scored double figures in six-straight games.Â
