Tennis Falls 5-2 Against Villanova Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. - Southeast Missouri tennis (8-9) falls 5-2 to the Villanova Wildcats (4-8) at the UTSA National Tennis center Saturday evening.

SEMO dominated in doubles, winning all three doubles matches of the contest.

Yontha Tadoum teamed up with Claudia Casas to defeat Chloe Floyd and Savie Seebald 6-4 on court three. To clinch the doubles point Juliette Demunck and Kristina Kozakova won 6-3 at the number two position against Emma Brogan and Valieriia Kornieva.

Just for good measure, Maja Bajorek and Mia Mayerova defeated Emi Callahan and Miriam Gondorova at the No. 1's 6-4.

In singles play, the Wildcats won five out of the six singles matches, four of them being in straight sets. The Redhawks were able to win one singles match on court four.

Mia Mayerova was the only Redhawk to capture a singles win. Mayerova defeated Lauren Monti 6-1, 6-2 to capture SEMO's second and last point of the match on court four.

At No. 1 Bajorek barely lost to Sophia Edwards in three sets. Bajorek played strong in set one winning 6-1, fell 6-0 in set two, and then ended up losing 6-2 in the third set. On court two, Tadoum fell 6-3, 6-2 against Olivia Corcoran.

On court three, Demunck fell 6-4 in both sets to Maggie Gehrig. Kozakova lost set 1 against Valieriia Kornieva 6-0, then barely lost the second set 7-6. At the number six position, Casas lost 6-0, 6-0 to Maddie Hills.

This is what Head Coach Steve Brooks had to say on the match, "This team and situation was good practice practice for OVC regular season since it was hot and we had choices. Unfortunately today we made too many bad choices. But we learned from the match."

Coach Brooks thought his team played well in some areas saying, " Doubles was good. Singles started out well in courts 1-4. We were close to turning it around. Kristina dropped the first set but was up 5-4 with 2 set points. It was good to see Mia play so mentally solid. One day better!"

The Redhawks will be back in action next weekend to start conference play as the face the Lindenwood Lions in St. Charles, Mo.
