In 2023 SEMO also won the regular season matchup 1-0, but the two teams also met in the OVC tournament which ended in a 1-1 draw, before the Redhawks advanced on penalty kicks 5-4. SEMO also leads the all-time series 16-9-4 and carries a 10-2-2 home record against the Golden Eagles. One of those home losses came in 2023, as Tennessee Tech is currently on a three-match win streak against the Redhawks. Before that the Redhawks went 3-0-2 against TTU from 2018-21. The first matchup between the teams' dates back until 1999 in which the Golden Eagles won 2-0
Last week
The Redhawks picked up its second win of the season exploding for five goals in a 5-0 win at Western Illinois. Hayley Hogeniller led the way scoring the first two goals of the match in the 29
th and 41
st minutes.
Laia Amat and
Olivia Klinkhardt added the assists.
Riley Henderson scored her first collegiate goal three minutes later, right before halftime, with
Melissa Kubin and Amat grabbing the assists. Kubin would add a goal herself right after the halftime kickoff in the 45
th minute with Hogenmiler snagging her fifth point of the match. Wrapping up the scoring was
Navi Washington, who also scored her first career goal, off assists by
Carson Bohnenstiehl and
Alyssa Schulte.Â
Madison Geisler notched her first career clean sheet making four saves.
The Redhawks also welcomed Eastern Illinois, who lead the OVC, and after a 0-0 draw in the first half, Eastern Illinois scored in the 82
nd minute to prevail in the defensive battle. Geisler added three saves.Â
Strong Goalkeeping
As I mentioned above Geisler earned her first career clean sheet against Western Illinois by making four saves. All four came in the first 20 minutes of the game. The seven saves and one goal allowed this week lowered her goals against average to 2.16. In her last five games she has only allowed four goals. Â
Nationally she is now up to eighth, and leading the OVC in saves per game at 6.60. Her 66 total saves are 45
th most in the country.Â
Staying Hot
After scoring her first collegiate goal against Little Rock on September 25
th,
Hayley Hogenmiller has contributed nine points in her last five games. In those five games she also has taken seven shots with six of them on goal. Also, her five-point breakout match against Western Illinois came off the bench, and only playing 35 minutes.
Production from the Subs
Â
Against Western Illinois the substitutes contributed all five goals and three assists. Furthermore, SEMO has added two more assists from substitutes since the turn of conference play.Â
Â
A Whole Lot of Firsts
Â
The match against Western Illinois provided many firsts. As I mentioned it was Geisler's first clean sheet.
Riley Henderson and
Navi Washington both scored their first goals of the season and in their career as well.
Melissa Kubin also joined the scoring party finding the back of the net for her first goal as a Redhawk. Finally,
Alyssa Schulte, who has already scored this season, earned her first assist of her career in the Western Illinois game.Â
