Track & Field Hosts 2025 Redhawks Invite in the Home Opener

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri track and field competes at the home opener for the 2024-25 season at the Redhawks Invite January 11th. The competition will be held at the SEMO Recreation Center and is free and open to the public. 

The field events are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. with the men's pole vault, followed by the women's pole vault.

The track events are slated for 3:00 p.m. beginning with the women's 55m hurdle prelims. The last event is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with the women's 4x400m relay.

The teams competing in the Invite this year are UT Martin, Missouri S&T, Missouri Baptist, Central Baptist, Lane, Harris Stowe, and State Fair Community College.

Record Broken
In the very first meet of the season Anna Thomason took home the gold medal in the pentathlon with 3643 total points breaking the previous record of 3580 set last year by Kaitlyn McGinnitey.

During the event the junior placed in the top two in 60m hurdles (1st), high jump (1s), long jump (2nd) and 800-meter run (2nd).

Last Time Out
The Rehawks competed at the Indiana Early Bird Meet and they posted four first place finishes and 13 podium finishes.

Paden Lewis threw for a mark of 21.74m to take the gold and a new PR in the men's weight throw.

Freshman Cole Reinders crosses the line at 1:21.01 in the 600m to take the gold.

Kenyon Johnson takes the crown in the men's triple jump with a distance of 15.45m 

Makenzie Williams threw for the bronze medal and a mark of 17.30m in the weight throw.

Marcus Gordon ran the 60m hurdles in 8.23 to wear the silver.

Andreese Ortiz chalked up a mark of 13.09m for third in her first ever shot put event.

Sydney Burdine ran the 400m in 56.69 to take the silver medal.

Clara Billing vaulted over a height of 3.95m to take second in the women's pole vault.

In the men's pole vault Sullivan Gleason and Tanner Koontz vaulted over heights of 5.00m and 4.85m for second and third.

Mattea Pearsall recorded a time of 2:27.41 in the women's 800-meter for third.

Breanna Miles recorded a finishing time of 24.20 in the 200-meter for second.

The Redhawks will be on the road next week for the Show Me Showdown in Columbia, Mo., Jan. 17.
