
Cross Country heads to Columbia for the Gans Creek Invitational

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri cross country heads to Columbia, Mo. to compete in the Gans Creek Invitational Friday, September 27.
The men will race the 8k at 8:00 a.m., CT. The race will feature a 500-meter starting chute with one 2k lap and two 3k loops. The women's 6k is slated for 8:45 a.m., featuring a 500-meter starting chute and two 3k loops.
The meet will feature 36 division one schools across 15 conferences including the SEC (5), Big 12 (3), Big 10 (2), ACC (2), Big East (1), ASUN (3), Missouri Valley (5), Atlantic 10 (1), American Athletic (2), OVC (4), Conference USA (2), WAC (1), Big Sky (2), American East (1), CAA (1) and Mountain West (1). Including four NCAA top 30 teams; Lipscomb, Stanford, Tulsa, and Ole Miss.
Competing in the race as well will be 18 schools across 11 different NAIA conferences, five division two schools, three division three schools and two schools representing the NJCAA.
OVC Weekly Awards
Nova Ojutkangas tabbed Co-OVC Female Runner of the Week for her performance at the UT Martin XC OVC Preview.
Ojutkangas placed first in the women's 6000-meter race, crossing the finish line at 21:17.5, 27.2 seconds faster than the second place athlete, ahead of 80 other athletes from six other schools, including five OVC schools.
This 6k time is the fastest time for the women in the OVC so far this season.
Last Time Out
The men's team took first at the UT Martin XC OVC Preview with three Redhawks placing in the top eight. The women's team took fourth while Nova Ojutkangas placed first once again.
The men placed first with a total score of 43 points and four new personal records, Southern Indiana placed second (47), and UT Martin third (64).
The women finished in fourth place with a team score of 89 falling behind Murray State (82), Tennessee Tech (49), and Southern Indiana (34).
Nick Cimmarusti and Noah Little led the way for the men's team with times of 24:23.2 (New PR) and 24:31.8 for second and third.
The rest of the scorers include Garrett Dumke in seventh with a time of 24:57.1, Myles Thornburg in 16th (25:49.0) with a new personal best, and Cade McCadams in 18th with a finishing time of 25:53.7.
Freshmen Laruen Eftink and Cordelia Hoover took 19th and 22nd overall. Eftink crossed the line at 22:58.3 and Hoover crossed the line in 23:09.7.
The other three scorers for the Redhawk women are Madalyn Gray and Erika Mellor. Gray finished with a time of 23:15.6 placing 23rd, Mellor finished in 23:18.2 fast enough for a new personal best (24th).

After the Gans Creek Classic the Redhawks will wrap up their regular season at the Angel Mounds Invite Oct. 18 in Evansville, Ind.
