Redhawks Drop Game Two 12-5 Saturday Evening

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Southeast Missouri (26-22, 14-4 OVC) dropped Saturday afternoon's contest to Kansas State (30-18, 11-7 Big 12) by a final score of 12-5 from Tointon Family Stadium. 
 
Shortstop Peyton Leeper and first baseman Lincoln Andrews each registered a home run as the Redhawks mustered eight hits Saturday afternoon. 
 
Leeper finished the contest going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a pair of runs scored to pace the Redhawks offense. 
 
KSU got on the board in the second inning off Redhawks starting pitcher Esteban Hernandez (2-2) by an RBI double to right-center by Cole Johnson to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. 
 
Center fielder Brendan Jones, four batters later, hit a grand slam to left field to give KSU a big advantage early. The Wildcats led 5-0 going into the fourth inning. 
 
Lincoln Andrews roped his home run in the fourth inning to grab a run back for the Redhawks, trimming the KSU lead to just four. 
 
Leeper went back-to-back with Andrews, this one to right field and the Redhawks were quickly down just three. 
 
But KSU would respond with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, an RBI triple, and an RBI groundout in the fifth inning to make it 8-2. 
 
Peyton Leeper would tack on his second homer of the day with a three-run shot to left-center field to make the score a 9-5 KSU advantage. 
 
The Redhawks failed to score the rest of the way as KSU scored runs In the sixth and eighth inning to take Saturday's contest, 12-5. 
 
RHP Esteban Hernandez (2-2) took the loss in Saturday's contest. The right-hander allowed five runs on five hits over 1.1 innings pitched. 
 
Seven different pitchers pitched in the game for SEMO including Logan Katen and Anthony Klein who did not allow a run in their outing.

Game three of the series is slated for tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., CT. in Manhattan, Kan. LHP Haden Down is projected to start for the Redhawks.
