MARTIN, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri (26-25, 14-6 OVC) dropped game two of the weekend series with UT Martin (20-31, 13-10 OVC) by a final score of 7-4 on Saturday evening.
The Redhawks registered seven hits on Saturday evening led by
Danny Sperling who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
UTM got on the board in the first inning with a two-out grand slam by designated hitter Jack Culumovic off RHP
Esteban Hernandez.
Hernandez finished the outing in three innings, allowing four runs on two hits. He struck out three Skyhawks.
SEMO would not go away quietly. The Redhawks used a two-run third and fourth inning to tie the game at four.
An RBI single by center fielder
Brett Graber got the momentum rolling. A batter later in the third,
Danny Sperling roped a single to center field to plate the second run of the inning.
In the fourth inning, back-to-back solo home runs by
Jevon Mason and
Peyton Leeper tied the game after the Redhawks fourth inning.
The Skyhawks would take the lead in the home fourth with a three-run home run to left field which proved to be the difference as the Redhawks fell Saturday.
RHP
Payton Lawrence (3-2) took the loss in the contest. Lawrence finished the day allowing three runs, on one hit in his outing.
Collin Wilma had a nice outing out of the bullpen for SEMO. Wilma pitched 4.2 innings allowing no runs on five hits in relief.
The Redhawks will look to salvage a game tomorrow, Sunday May 14, at Skyhawks Baseball Field. First pitch is TBA and will be updated as soon as information becomes available.
