Redhawks Head Back to Tennessee to Take On Tennessee State Thursday Night
Southeast Missouri (9-14, 4-8 OVC) will head to the Music City on Thursday, February 9, to take on the Tennessee State Tigers (8-14, 4-8 OVC) at the Gentry Center in Nashville, Tenn. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m., CT. 
 
Series History
Earlier this season, SEMO hosted TSU in Cape Girardeau and secured a 77-59 victory over the Tigers at the Show-Me Center for the Redhawks' 23rd win in the series. 
 
SEMO currently supports a 23-13 record in the series and is on a one-game winning streak in the matchup. 
 
Scouting the Opponent
Tigers
Tennessee State comes into Thursday's matchup with SEMO having lost their most recent matchup on Saturday, Feb. 4, to Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Ill. By a final score of 75-58. 
 
Despite shooting 50-percent from three-point range, the Tigers lost their eighth conference game and suffered their second loss to EIU on the season. 
 
TSU had three different players reach double figures headlined by Gia Adams who registered 19-points. Ashley Malone had 11 off the bench, and Erica Haynes-Overton tallied 10 points and four steals in the contest. 
 
Since the Tigers and Redhawks played, TSU is currently averaging 64.6 points per game and are giving up an average of 71.0 points per game for a -6.4 scoring-differential. 
 
Haynes-Overton leads the Tigers in scoring with a 14.5 PPG average (318 total points) and is third on the team with a .459 field-goal percentage. 
 
Sophomore guard Gia Adams leads TSU in three-point percentage, shooting at a .293-percent clip for the season. Against EIU, she was 5-of-8 from behind the arc en route to her 19-point performance. 
 
On the glass, Sophomore forward Lyric Cole has the highest rebound mark for the team hauling in 132 rebounds over 22 games. She is currently averaging 6.6 rebounds per game, including 2.3 offensive rebounds per game for TSU. 
 
Last Time Out
Southeast Missouri (9-14, 4-8) fought to the end, but came up short in a 71-65 loss to Tennessee Tech (14-8, 8-4) Saturday afternoon at the Eblen Center.
 
TTU made six free throws in the final 23 seconds to hold off SEMO down the stretch.
 
In a game that involved 10 lead changes and three ties, neither team led by more than five points in the second half until 20 seconds were left on the clock.
 
Jada Guinn's layup put the Golden Eagles ahead, 65-61, with 2:10 remaining in the game.
 
After Jaliyah Green's two free throws cut TTU's lead to two (65-63), Guinn and Reghan Grimes answered with two free throws apiece to widen the Golden Eagles margin to 69-63. Grimes added one more free throw to finish off the win.
 
Rahmena Henderson's eight points helped SEMO outscore TTU, 17-14, in the second quarter and get within a point, 32-31, at the intermission.
 
SEMO and TTU each scored 19 points in the third quarter setting up the decisive final 10 minutes.
 
Green made two free throws to bring the game to. 37-37 deadlock with 5:37 to go in the third quarter. SEMO then stretched its lead to 42-37 on a second-chance layup by Julia Sion a little over a minute later.
 
The Redhawks held a close lead until Anna Walker's hookshot at the buzzer sent the Golden Eagles into the fourth quarter with a 51-50 advantage.
 
SEMO led by a point twice in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter. 
 
Kiyley Flowers later tied the game at 60-60 on a driving layup with 3:35 remaining and TTU led the rest of the way after that.
 
Henderson led the Redhawks with 17 points off the bench as her team's only double-digit scorer. She made 7-of-11 from the field and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. Henderson scored double figures for the 10th time this season.
 
Flowers followed with nine points and eight rebounds, while Halle Smith and Alecia Doyle each chipped in eight points.
 
SEMO made a near-perfect 16-of-17 free throws at a 94.1 percent rate.
 
Maaliya Owens had a game-high 18 points to lead all scorers for TTU. Walker turned in a double-double 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Grimes finished with 10 boards. The Golden Eagles outrebounded SEMO, 41-34, and had 21 offensive rebounds, as well.

  • SEMO ranks sixth in the conference on the defensive side, holding opponents to just 64.4 points per game. Little Rock leads the conference with a 52.9 opponent points per game average. 
  • The Redhawks are ranked fourth in opponent field-goal percentage. SEMO is only allowing opponents to connect on 40.2-percent of their shots on the season. 
  • Kiyley Flowers remains ranked second in the OVC in steals. The Raymore, Mo.-native has registered 53 steals on the season (2.7 SPG) and still trails only Morehead State's Veronica Charles for the conference lead.

Southeast Missouri will return to the Show-Me Center on Saturday, Feb. 11, to take on Morehead State. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., CT. in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
