Redhawks Return to Action Wednesday Night Versus Missouri State
Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball (1-3) will travel to Springfield, Mo. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, to take on in-state foe Missouri State (1-1) of the Missouri Valley Conference. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m., CT. at Great Southern Bank Arena. 
 
Series History
The Redhawks and Bears will meet for the 15th time on Wednesday night and just the first time since 2013. Missouri State won the last matchup 77-66 on December 21 in Springfield. 
 
MSU holds a 12-2 all-time advantage in the matchup. 
 
Green Goes for Career High
Junior guard Jaliyah Green registered a career-high 22 points in Sunday's game against Northwestern. Green finished 8-for-19 from the floor in the contest, including 40-percent from three-point range (4-10) and a near-perfect 2-for-3 from the charity stripe. Through four games, Jaliyah is averaging 17.3 points-per-game over 31 minutes-per-night. 
 
Off the Bench
The Redhawks have utilized their depth through the first four games of the season led by guard Indiya Bowen and forward Amiyah Buchanan. The SEMO bench registered 26 points in Sunday's loss to Northwestern, and 33 points in Friday night's game against Illinois-Chicago.
 
Bowen and Buchanan combined for 21 of the 33 bench points in Friday's game, and 17 of 26 in Sunday's contest. 
 
Windy City Recap
The Redhawks return to action on Wednesday night following a weekend-long trip to Chicago, Ill. where they faced Illinois-Chicago and Northwestern on Friday & Sunday, respectively. 
 
The Redhawks fell to Missouri Valley Conference-member Illinois-Chicago (3-1) in a hard-fought contest on Friday night at Credit Union 1 Arena by a final score of 87-74. 
 
Junior guard Jaliyah Green led the Redhawks with 15 points on 5-of-16 shooting, including 2-for-6 from three and a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe in 34:50 of game time. 
 
Four Redhawks, including Green, finished in double-digit points in Friday's contest as guards Kiyley Flowers and Indiya Bowen finished with 10 apiece. Forward Amiyah Buchanan dropped in 11 points as SEMO's second highest scorer.
 
As a team, the Redhawks shot 42-percent from the floor (28-67) while UIC finished at a 54-percent mark (29-54). SEMO was outrebounded 39-30 and had two more turnovers than UIC (17-15). 
 
SEMO did damage in the paint, scoring nearly half of their points in the contest from inside the lane (36) and converted 14 fast break opportunities into 11 points.
 
SEMO turned around and fell on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 76-68 to Big 10-member Northwestern (3-1) from Welsh-Ryan Arena. Forward Jaliyah Green registered a career-high 22 points in the game. 
 
Green, a junior from Wentzville, Mo., finished the day 8-for-19 from the field, including 4-for-10 from three-point land, and a near perfect 2-for-3 from the charity stripe. She grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists. 
 
The Redhawks led by eight points, their largest lead of the contest, with 2:24 left in the first half, but 27 points from Northwestern forward Caileigh Walsh led the Wildcats to the eight-point victory. 
 
SEMO utilized their bench as they have all season, outscoring Northwestern's bench by a 26-10 margin led by freshman Indiya Bowen. Bowen finished with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting including an impressive 4-for-7 from three. 
 
Four Redhawks scored off the bench, including Bowen, as forwards Michaela Mayfield (6), Amiyah Buchanan (5), and Abbigail Stephens (3) all scored in the contest. 
 
The Redhawks were scrappy on the defensive end of the floor, turning NU over a season-high 20 times, compared to just 12 SEMO turnovers, led by Jaliyah Green with three steals.
 
Scouting the Opponent
Missouri State
Missouri State is coming off a 79 - 67 loss to Saint Louis where they shot 38.2% from the field and 25% from three-point range. The Bears were winning going into the fourth quarter but let the lead slip and lost by 13.
 
Against Saint Louis, Paige Rocca led the Bears in scoring with 21 points going 7-15 from the field while making three from behind the arc. Rocca also added five rebounds and five steals. 
 
Jade Masogayo, the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Masogayo is leading the Bears this season in rebounds with 18 (9.0 reb/game). 
 
Kyrah Daniels added 13 points against Saint Louis. Daniels is shooting .409 from the field this season and .333 from three-point range this year.
 
In the two games that the Bears have played they have scored 119 points, averaging 59.50 points per game while shooting 37.7% from the field, 27% from behind the arc, and 54.8% from the line. 
 
Sophomore Forward Jade Masogayo and Junior Kennedy Taylor picked up Preseason Honors for the Bear. Both Forwards were named to the Preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference second team.
 
Last season Missouri State had an Overall record of 20-12 and 14-6 in conference play. In the MVC tournament the Bears won their first-round game against #12 Bradley but fell in the second round to #4 Drake.
 
Looking Ahead
Women's Basketball will return to the Show-Me Center on Tuesday, Nov. 28, when they take on Harris-Stowe to continue non-conference play. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m., CT. in Cape Girardeau.
