Redhawks Set for Home Opener Against Stephens College Saturday Afternoon
Southeast Missouri women's basketball (0-1) will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 11, when they welcome in NAIA-member Stephens College (4-0) to the Show-Me Center. The game will mark the home opener for the Redhawks with tip-off being slated for 2 p.m., CT. in Cape Girardeau.Â

Series History
The Redhawks and the Stars will meet for just the second time on the court Saturday afternoon as SEMO maintains a 1-0 series lead over Stephens.

The last time these two faced one another came on Dec. 4, 2016, as SEMO throttled Stephens by a final score of 107-59 at the Show-Me Center.

Doyle Goes for Career-High
Sophmore guard
Alecia Doyle had a career- high 19 points for SEMO on Tuesday night. The Herrin, Ill.-native led the Redhawks in scoring at halftime with 12 points and finished with 19 on an 8-for-10 shooting performance (80%) including a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the three-point line. She played a team-high 32-minutes in the season opener.Â

Southeast Missouri women's basketball (0-1) dropped the 2023-24 season opener to Southern Illinois (1-0) by a final score of 85-70 on Tuesday night at the Banterra Center.Â

Jaliyah Green had a strong start to her campaign as she finished with 17 points, four assists, and seven rebounds.Â

As a team, SEMO shot 53.1-percent from the field compared to SIU who shot just 48.4-percent, but a strong second-half from the Salukis proved to be the difference.Â

SEMO dominated the glass as well, out rebounding the Salukis by a 36-27 tally, led by Green's seven boards.Â

SEMO started the game on fire, shooting an impressive 71-percent from the floor in the first quarter led by
Alecia Doyle.Â

Doyle finished the quarter going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field including a nice jump shot with contact to complete the old-fashioned three-point play midway through the first quarter.Â

Daejah Richmond recorded her first points in a Redhawks jersey in the first quarter as the Cordova, Tenn. She finished the first 10-minutes with four points, including a pair of free throws.Â

The Redhawks shot 55.2-percent from the field in the first half, led by Doyle who finished with 12 points to lead SEMO in scoring.Â

The Redhawks started the third quarter quickly, growing their halftime led to nine points, 52-43.Â

SIU, midway through the third quarter would go on an 8-0 run to cut the SEMO led to just one with 4:04 left in the quarter.Â

Amiyah Buchanan was upgraded to a flagrant one, giving SIU free throws and the ball back to spark the run.Â

A three-pointer by SIU's Quierra Love would give SIU its first lead of the half as they led 54-52 as the third quarter wound down.Â

The Redhawks, during a 5:10 scoring draught, got back to its scoring ways on a
Kiyley Flowers free throw to cut SIU's lead to six entering the final quarter.Â

SIU began the fourth quarter on an 8-0 scoring run and grew the lead to 16 with 7:08 left in the fourth quarter, the largest lead of the contest to that point.

An
Alecia Doyle three-pointer cut the SIU lead to just 13 midway through the final quarter as SEMO faced its second-largest deficit of the contest, as the game went to the final media timeout.

SIU scored a quick five points out of the break off a layup and three-pointer from Shamera Williams to extend SIU's lead to 17 as SIU would hold on for the victory. Â

The Salukis were led by Quierra Love and Shemera Williams who each had 16 points, including a combined 7-for-7 from three-point land. SIU shot 52.9-percent from behind-the-arc as a team.

Scouting the Opponent
Stephens College
The Stars come to town off an 80-74 win over Baptist Bible College. Stephens College is still undefeated this season with other wins over Central Methodist, Southwestern College, and Viterbo University.

Against Baptist Bible College, the stars shot 32.6% from the field, 20% from behind the arc, and 75% from the free throw line.Â

Savanna "Chu" Crockett was the Star's leading scorer with 25 points. Crockett also recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds while shooting 10-17 from the field. Crockett currently has the most points and rebounds this season for the Stars with 73 points and 46 total rebounds.

Mia Moorel is shooting a team high 41.7% from behind the arc. Moorel also has 63 points, 15 rebounds, a team best 18 assists, 12 steals, and one block on the season.

As a team Stephens College is averaging 82.5 points per game and has a shooting percentage of 40.6%. The Stars currently have 14 steals per game compared to their opponents 12.8 per game and 4.3 blocks per game compared to 0.5 by their opponents. Â

Stephens College is coming off a 16-11 (11-9 in conference play) 2022-23 season. The Stars season ended in the AMC Quarterfinals with a 58-64 loss to William Baptist.

Last year saw three returners earn postseason honors. Alaysia Douglass won AMC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year. Douglass was also selected to the Third Team All-Conference and the All-Defensive Team.

Zaraya March was selected as the Newcomer of the Year and was named to the First Team All-Conference and All-Defensive teams. She led the team in scoring at 17.0 and shooting percentage.

Marveen Ross was selected to the Second Team All-Conference Team last season. Ross made the most shots and played the most minutes last year for the Stars.
