Redhawks Seek First OVC Win Saturday Against Little Rock
Southeast Missouri (5-9, 0-3 OVC) will look to get in the conference win column on Saturday, Jan. 7, when they take on Little Rock (6-8, 3-0 OVC) at the Jack Stephens Arena in Little Rock, Ark. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m., CT. on Saturday afternoon.Â

The Redhawks and Trojans square off for just the fifth time in the schools' history. Little Rock, one of the OVC's newest teams, and SEMO are split dead even at two games apiece.Â

Little Rock won the last meeting by a final score of 87-55 on Dec. 28, 2009 in Little Rock, Ark.Â

Trojans
Little Rock will come into Saturday's matchup with SEMO sporting a perfect 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference record. One of the league's newest teams has started off with three-straight conference wins over UT Martin (12/29), Tennessee State (12/31), and Lindenwood (1/4) prior to Saturday's matchup.Â

The Trojans most recently downed Lindenwood, another new face to the OVC. LR won the game 62-38 at Jack Stephens Arena and led for the majority of the game.Â

Angelique Francis led the Trojans with a career-high 22 points shooting 69-percent from the field (9-for-13), hauled in eight rebounds and drew six fouls including one charge.

Freshman forward Faith Lee leads the team in scoring. The 5-11, Monroe, La.-native, registered 12 points against Lindenwood and currently has 149 points on the season (10.6 PPG). Lee has also started in all 14 games for the Trojans.Â

Tia Harvey and Nikki Metcalfe contribute most of the rest of the scoring. Harvey averages 8.9 points per game while Metcalfe is hovering just above eight points a game with 8.3.Â

SEMO dropped their last matchup on Thursday night against UT Martin by a final score of 77-58.Â

SEMO led just twice in the game when
Kennedi Watkins' jumper gave the Redhawks a 2-0 edge and
Kiyley Flowers' second-chance 3-pointer gave the Redhawks a one-point advantage in the first 3:08 of the first quarter.

Tied, 9-9, UTM put together a 22-4 run and SEMO never recovered. The Skyhawks went on to outscore the Redhawks, 23-9, in the second quarter and head into the intermission with a 42-20 lead.

SEMO closed out the game strong by outscoring UTM, by double figures (28-15) in the fourth quarter.

The Redhawks shot 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the field and made 11 free throws in the final 10 minutes of play.
Alecia Doyle scored eight points in the quarter.Â

Jaliyah Green led the Redhawks in scoring for the second-straight game with 13 points on 3-of-8 shooting. The Wentzville, Missouri native grabbed four rebounds in the contest as well.  All of Green's points were off the bench.

Sophie Bussard followed with nine points, while Watkins and Doyle added eight apiece.

SEMO shot 30 percent from the field on 16-of-53. The Redhawks scored 22 of their points at the free throw line where they held a 22-19 advantage.

Sharnecca Currie-Jelks led all scorers with a game-high 30 points. Currie-Jelks missed just three of her field goals on a 12-of-15 effort. She collected 13 rebounds to complete her double-double.

Shae Littleford (16) and Josie Storey (10) contributed double figures in the scoring column, as well.

UTM shot 54 percent (27-of-50) and posted a +10 margin (39-29) on the glass.

Jaliyah Green has now scored in double-figures in all three Ohio Valley Conference games this season.

Green, from Wentzville, Mo., registered 13 points off the bench for SEMO to lead all scorers in the contest. She grabbed four rebounds to add to her stat sheet.Â

Following Saturday's contest, SEMO will host Lindenwood on Jan. 12 (Thu.) back home in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m., CT. at the Show-Me Center.Â
