Track & Field Set to Compete at the John Gartland Invitational Friday and Saturday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri Track and Field will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana this weekend to compete in the John Gartland Invitational.
This will be the Redhawks third meet of the year and will be held at the ISU North Gym at the College of Health and Human Services on the campus of Indiana State.
The invitational will kick-off on Friday evening with the multi-events as the women's pentathlon will get underway at 6 p.m., CT. The men's heptathlon (which will be a two-day event) will begin immediately following the conclusion of the women's event.
Saturday morning, the heptathlon will begin the morning competition beginning at 10 a.m., CT.
The Field events will get underway on Saturday at Noon beginning with the women's weight throw. The competition(s) will begin with the women and will be followed immediately by the men.
On the Track side, the men's 60-meter dash preliminary round will commence at 12:30 p.m. and will be followed by the women's competition.
As the day moves along, the final competition will take place at 4:55 p.m., CT. with the men's 5,000-meter race to close the day.
Last Time Out
SEMO picked up where they left off from last meet, with multiple Redhawks achieving personal bests at the Redhawks Invite.
Clara Billings and Colin Beers set their personal best in the Pole Vault.
Billings achieved a 12-03.50 (3.75m) mark to win the event, and Beers with a 15-05.75 (4.72m) jump to grab the gold in the event too.
Katie Wegmann and Hannah Eastman dominated the 3000 meter run, both setting new PRs in the event.
Wegmann barely beat her teammate with a time of 10:06.87 while Eastmen had a time of 10:07.17.
Serena Williams grabbed a PR in the High Jump with a 5' 5" (1.65m) mark for first place.
Mackenzie Williams set a personal best in Shot Put, throwing the rock for 40' 3.25" (12.27m).
In the women's weight throw SEMO swept the top three in the event.
Mackenzie Williams, Piper Klinger, and Megan Deimeke placed first, second, and third in the event.
Freshman Clara Billing took home the gold medal in the 55 meter hurdles with a run of 8.41 and Kaitlyn McGinnitey ran for a time of 8.68 which earned her a third-place finish.
Breanna Miles dashed her way to first place with a time of 7.15 in the 55 meter dash.
The Redhawks had four athletes compete in the Men's one mile run with Justin Splitt placing first and Noah Little placing third. Their times were 4: 22.06 and 4: 29.00.
In the Women's 1 Mile Run the Redhawks had four athletes in the top five with Taylor Fox placing first, Madalyn Gray placing second, Layla Fliege placing third, and Alayna Sparr placing fifth.
In the Long Jump Hatfield Jackson led the Redhawks with a jump of 25-00.75 (7.64m) taking first place. The freshman Chris Johnson had a jump of 23-02.50 to take second.
Terrico Garrett and Mark Crawford took the top two spots in the Men's 800-meter run, with times of 1:55.42 and 2:00.9.
Three Redhawks competed in the Women's 800-meter run, with Erika Mellor taking home the first-place finish with a time of 2:23.00. Lilly Early placed third with a time of 2:26.34
The women swept the top five in the 3000 meter with Katie Wegmann, Hannah Eastman, Lexie Dockstader, Mackenzie Pugh, and Kayla Vogelsang.
Wegmann and Eastman Crushed the race, finishing in 10:06.87 and the ladder just right behind with a time of 10:07.17. Both of those times broke the facility record for the event.
In the 3000 meter for the men, the sophomore from St. Charles, Mo. Nick Cimmarusti took home the gold, running the long race in 8:41.71.
The Rehawks also placed second, third and fourth. Aaron Modrow finished second, Seth Gleason and Clayton Eftinktook third and fourth.
Looking Ahead
After the Redhawks compete at the John Gartland Invite they will be back on the road to compete in the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Ind. This competition will take place Friday, January 27th - Saturday, January 28th.
