Redhawks Set to Host Central Arkansas Sunday in Final Preseason Exhibition

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's soccer will cap off its 2022 preseason Sunday when the Redhawks host Central Arkansas in an exhibition at Houck Field. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., CT in SEMO's second and final preseason contest.

Admission to Sunday's game is free. Due to the Houck Project construction ongoing this fall, stadium operations will be modified. Fans may enter Houck Field either through the gates on the north side of the stadium (behind Kent Library) or the main front entrance of Houck Field House. The Houck Field House entrance is fully ADA accessible, with an elevator to field-level.

Parking will not be available in the east end zone of Houck Field during soccer home games this fall.

SEMO owns a 2-0-0 all-time series advantage over UCA with the teams last meeting in 2001 (Sept. 9, 2001), a 4-0 victory for Southeast Missouri in Cape.

The Bears fashioned a 9-9 overall record in 2021 including a 6-3 conference record to earn an ASUN West title.

In 2022, Central Arkansas was selected sixth out of 14 teams in the preseason ASUN poll, with senior defender Gracie Hair earning a preseason all-conference nod.

On Thursday, the Redhawks were picked to finish fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference this season.

Sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Rater was tabbed to the 2022 OVC Soccer Preseason Players to Watch List. Rater, a Mequon, Wisconsin, native, led SEMO offensively in 2021 with three goals and was second on the team with six points (3g).

In conference play, Rater paced the Redhawks with two goals and four points in eight games and was selected to the 2021 OVC Second-Team and All-Newcomer Team.

The Redhawks most recently drew with Western Illinois, 1-1, in exhibition play on Aug. 7 at the John MacKenzie Alumni Field in Macomb, Illinois.

Rater put the Redhawks on the board with a goal at 82:15 before Amy Andrews evened the contest in the 87th minute.

SEMO outshot the Leathernecks, 9-5 (4-3 SOG), including a dominating first half advantage of 6-2.

Five freshmen started for the Redhawks in goalkeeper Sophia Elfrink, defenders Macie Hockett and Alayna Jakul, midfielder Zoe Houston, and forward Cayla Koerner.

Elfrink played all 90 minutes in goal for the Redhawks, registering two saves in her SEMO debut.

Koerner, a Mahomet, Illinois, native, paced the Redhawks with three shots including one on target in 62 minutes of playing time.

Natalie Jackson, a senior defender from O'Fallon, Missouri, led all field players with a game-high 90 minutes on the pitch.

SEMO went on a Cinderella run in the 2021 OVC Championship Tournament, edging #6 Morehead State, 1-0, in the First Round before eliminating Quarterfinals host, #3 Belmont, 2-1, in overtime. The Redhawks then fell to #2 SIUE, the 2021 OVC Champions, 3-0 in the Semifinals.

SEMO finished the 2021 campaign with a 7-10-2 overall record (2-4-2 in the OVC), after qualifying for its fifth-straight OVC Championship Tournament and 20th all-time appearance.

The Redhawks return five All-Ohio Valley Conference players this season in midfielders Kiana Khedoo (2021 Second-Team) and Rater (2021 Second-Team and All-Newcomer Team), redshirt senior forward Morgan McCourt (2020-21 Tournament, 2018 All-Newcomer), senior defender Natalie Jackson (2019 All-Tournament) and Cape Girardeau midfielder/defender Emma Brune (2020-21 Second Team, All-Newcomer and Tournament).

The 2022 squad also features nine freshmen.

The Redhawks will begin the 2022 regular season on Thursday, Aug. 18 in Columbia, Missouri, when they take on SEC (Southeastern Conference) member Missouri at Audrey J. Watson Soccer Stadium. First kick is slated for 7 p.m., CT.

The Redhawks then return to Cape Girardeau for their regular-season home opener at Houck Field against Illinois Springfield on Sunday, Aug. 21.

Season tickets and single game tickets are now on sale for the upcoming fall season. All seating at Houck Field is general admission.

Season tickets can be purchased for $39 (including all taxes and fees). Redhawks Club members at the Varsity level and above along with SEMO Faculty and Staff are eligible for discounted season tickets.

Single game tickets are $6 when purchased online (including all taxes and fees). Walk-up admission at Houck Field is $8 for adults and $6 for children 14 and younger.
