COLUMBIA, Mo. – Daniela Hlacikova and
Vivian Lai each registered singles wins Friday as Southeast Missouri women's tennis (1-3) dropped a 5-2 decision to Missouri (3-4) of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Friday at the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
Hlacikova, a sophomore from Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, defeated Emelie Schwarte, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 Singles to even the dual at 1-1.
Hlacikova, the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, improved to 3-1 in 2022 with her second win over an SEC opponent this campaign.
Lai, a junior from Taipei, Taiwan, fought past Valentina Vazquez, 5-7, 7-6, 10-5, at No. 5 singles to conclude the match.
The wins were also the second-straight this season for both Hlacikova and Lai.
Missouri grabbed the doubles point to open the match with victories at the third and first slots.
Ellie Wright and Schwarte beat
Ksenia Shikanova and Lai, 6-1, before Gabriela Martinez and Bronte Murgett edged
Romana Tarajova and
Myroslava Zelenchuk, 6-2.
When competition switched toward singles, the Tigers compiled wins at the first, third, fourth and sixth lineup spots to pull ahead 5-1 after Hlacikova's second singles victory.
Murgett fought past Tarajova, the 2022 OVC Preseason Top Player, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, at the top singles spot.
Martinez then beat Shikanova, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 4 singles and Wright beat Zelenchuk, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), at the third slot.
Elys Ventura defeated
Teona Velkoska, 6-3, 6-2, at the last singles position before Lai's fifth singles win.
SEMO next faces Central Arkansas Saturday morning. The dual will be contested at the Mizzou Tennis Complex at 9 a.m., CT.
