COLUMBIA, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (2-3) edged Central Arkansas (5-4), 4-3, Saturday at the Mizzou Tennis Complex after securing four singles victories.
After dropping the doubles point,
Romana Tarajova,
Myroslava Zelenchuk,
Ksenia Shikanova and
Teona Velkoska all captured singles wins to seal SEMO's second win in 2022.
The Bears won all three doubles matches to head to singles leading 1-0.
Chunxi Xin and Fuka Nonoyama beat Tarajova and Zelenchuk, 6-3, before Yada Vasupongchai and Mei Ishimura defeated
Daniela Hlacikova and Velkoska, 6-3, at the top two slots, respectively.
Sumomo Hamanaga and Maja Gledic also overcame Lai and Shikanova, 7-5, at No. 3 doubles.
Trailing UCA 1-0 in the dual, SEMO rallied off singles wins at the top and fourth lineup spots to pull ahead 2-1.
Tarajova, the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Top Player, beat Xin, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, at No. 1 before Shikanova defeated Sumomo Hamanaga, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, at the fourth slot.
Fuka Nonoyama then overcame Hlacikova, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, at second singles.
Zelenchuk fought past Yada Vasupongchai, 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, at No. 3 singles.
SEMO sealed the dual victory at the final singles position with Velkoska beating Nicole Ross, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.
Maja Gledic defeated Lai, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5 singles.
Southeast Missouri will next return home to take on William Woods in a doubleheader March 1 at the Redhawks Tennis Complex. Matches are set for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., CT in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
