CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. –
Tyler Wilber and
Lincoln Andrews combined for eight hits, four runs and five RBI as Southeast Missouri (19-15) blew out Austin Peay (14-24), 16-3, Wednesday.
The game was called after seven innings due to severe weather in the Clarksville area.
SEMO erupted for a season-high 16 runs and 19 hits in its largest win of the season. Five players finished with multiple hits and multiple runs in the Redhawks overpowering display.
After falling behind, 2-0, in the first inning, SEMO answered with four runs in the second and six in the third to storm past APSU.
The Redhawks had the bases loaded when
Jevon Mason walked in a run. Wilber followed with a two-RBI single and Mason later touched home on a wild pitch to give SEMO a 4-2 advantage.
Andrew Keck led off the third inning with a solo home run to left center. Two more runs came home with the help of a fielder's choice and an error before Mason knocked in
Connor Basler on a double and Wilber belted a two-run home run pushing the Redhawks lead to 10-2.
The onslaught continued in the fifth inning when SEMO scored six more runs, this time on seven hits.
Basler, Mason and Wilber each singled with Leeper scoring on Mason's hit and Basler touching home on Wilber's infield single. After Mason scored on a sacrifice fly by
Danny Wright, Keck launched his second home run of the game, a two-run shot over the left field wall.
Austin Blazevic's two-out RBI-single drove in Stauss to widen SEMO's lead to 16-2.
SEMO's dominating effort came after an 11-day layoff. The Redhawks last played on Apr. 17 (vs. Tennessee Tech). SEMO was scheduled to play Missouri State in a four-game series last weekend, but those games were canceled.
Wilber went 4-for-5 with two runs and a game-high five RBI. He hit safely in each of his first four at-bats of the game and added a home run. Andrews was 4-for-4 with two runs and a double. The four hits are a career-high for both Wilber and Andrews.
Keck followed with three hits and two runs in the first multi-home run game of his career. Mason had two hits, three RBI and three runs, while Stauss contributed two hits and three runs scored. Basler scored three times, as well.
Bryce Grossius (3-1) set the tone on the mound striking out six and allowing just two runs in four innings. Grossius also scattered four hits and did not issue a walk. His six strikeouts marked a new career-best.
SEMO pounded out double-digit hits for the 15th time this season and won its ninth game when getting 10 or more hits. Additionally, the Redhawks scored seven of their runs with two outs.
The Redhawks, who won eight of their last 11 games, visit Belmont for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series on Apr. 30-May 1.
