LAWRENCE, Kan. – Daniela Hlacikova and
Teona Velkoska teamed up for a doubles victory as Southeast Missouri women's tennis (4-4) fell to Kansas (5-3) of the Big 12 Conference, 7-0, Saturday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
Hlacikova and Velkoska teamed up for their second win of the 2021 season Saturday. The duo bested Tiffany Lagarde and Carmen Roxana Manu, 6-2, to open the dual.
The Jayhawks then took the doubles point with decisions at the second and first slots.
Malkia Ngounoue and Julia Deming beat
Ksenia Shikanova and
Lera Valeeva, 6-4, before Sonia Smagina and Vasiliki Karvouni fought past
Romana Tarajova and
Kseniya Zonova, 7-5.
Kansas closed out the match with wins at each singles position.
Vasiliki Karvouni bested Shikanova, 6-1, 6-1, at the fourth slot when the match switched gears to singles.
Smagina then beat Tarajova, 6-1, 6-4, at the top spot.
At third singles, Roxana Manu defeated Hlacikova, 6-3, 6-3.
Deming then overcame
Lera Valeeva, 6-4, 6-0, at the sixth lineup slot.
Lagarde defeated
Vivian Lai at no. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
Zonova won the opening set against Ngounoue, 6-2, at the no. 2 slot. Ngounoue then rallied off 6-0, 6-2 second and third sets to claim the dual win for the Jayhawks.
SEMO next returns to Cape Girardeau to host William Woods of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics in a doubleheader on Monday. Match times are set for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
The Owls are 6-0 this season and most recently beat McPherson College Saturday, 7-0, at the Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex in Fulton, Missouri.
