SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (3-3) edged Missouri State (1-4), 4-2, Saturday afternoon at the Cooper Tennis Complex to earn the weekend sweep of the Bears. SEMO has now won three-straight matches in 2021.
After dropping the doubles point, SEMO rallied for singles wins at the second, third, fourth and fifth slots to capture the victory.
Daniela Hlacikova pushed her win streak to five this season with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Hana Sisirak at the no. 2 position.
Ksenia Shikanova then fought past Mary Houston, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 at the third lineup spot.
Missouri State then evened the match at 2-2 with a win at the top singles positon. Ellie Burger beat
Kseniya Zonova, 6-2, 4-6, 2-6.
SEMO completed the dual competition with victories at the fourth and sixth slots to seal the sweep.
Vivian Lai won her third straight match in 2021 with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Tiffani Nash.
Lera Valeeva then captured her first career dual singles victory at no. 6. The sophomore from Ekaterinburg, Russia, defeated Claire Martin, 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles, Zonova and
Romana Tarajova beat Alye Darter and Houston, 6-4, at the top position.
MSU earned doubles wins at the second and third slots to grab the doubles point. Alyson Piskulic and Hana Sisirak beat Valeeva and
Teona Velkoska, 6-2, before Burger and Martin overcame Hlacikova and Shikanova, 7-5.
SEMO will next travel to Peoria, Illinois, to take on Bradley on Feb. 20. The dual is scheduled to start at 1 p.m., CT.
