PEORIA, Ill. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (4-3) bested Bradley (1-3), 5-2, Saturday afternoon at The Clubs at River City to extend its win streak to four matches.
Daniela Hlacikova,
Ksenia Shikanova and
Lera Valeeva each notched singles and doubles wins in the dual victory.
SEMO opened the match by securing the doubles point with victories at the no. 3 and no. 2 positions. Hlacikova and
Teona Velkoska beat Bozana Lojpur and Nikki Perlwitz, 6-4. Shikanova and Valeeva then overcame Maria Bezmenova and Victoria Sánchez Bronzetti, 6-4.
When the competition turned to singles, Hlacikova pushed the SEMO advantage to 2-0 at the third slot. She won her sixth straight match, beating Sánchez Bronzetti, 6-3, 6-2.
The Braves responded by knotting the match at 2-2 with wins at the top two positions.
SEMO captured the match with victories at the fifth, sixth and fourth lineup spots.
Vivian Lai edged Natalia Barbery, 6-3, 6-2, for her fourth straight win in 2021.
Valeeva then won her second career dual singles match. She cruised past Perlwitz, 6-1, 6-2.
Shikanova then fought past Maria Bezmenova, 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (5-7), 6-4 to capture the dual win for SEMO.
SEMO next returns to Cape for a home-opening doubleheader against William Woods on Monday, March 8. Matches are set for 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., CT at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
