SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (2-3) picked up its second-consecutive dual victory in the early 2021 season with a 6-1 win over in-state rival, Missouri State (1-3), Friday at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
SEMO won the doubles point for the second time this campaign with victories at the first and third positions.
Kseniya Zonova and
Romana Tarajova bested Ellie Burger and Hana Sisirak, 6-2, before
Lera Valeeva and
Teona Velkoska fought past Claire Martin and Alyson Piskulic, 7-5.
At the second doubles slot, Alye Darter and Mary Houston overcame
Daniela Hlacikova and
Ksenia Shikanova, 7-5.
When the competition switched to singles, the Redhawks rattled off wins at every match besides no. 4.
Tarajova beat Burger, 6-4, 6-4, at the second position for her third straight win and Zonova bested Sisirak, 7-6, 6-3, at the top slot to give SEMO a 3-0 edge in the dual.
Tiffani Nash then outlasted Shikanova, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, to put the Bears on the scoreboard at the fourth singles position.
SEMO concluded the match with victories at the third, fifth and sixth singles matches.
Hlacikova extended her win streak to four at the third position, when she defeated Taylor Shaw, 6-2, 3-6, 7-4.
Vivian Lai then beat Alyson Piskulic, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Velkoska captured her first singles victory of the 2021 campaign at the final singles position to seal the dual win. The Prilep, Macedonia native, bested Martin, 7-6, 6-2.
SEMO will close out their pair of matches against Missouri State Saturday at 12 p.m., CT.
