Redhawks Fall to Hot Shooting Murray State, 80-60

MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State (10-9, 7-7), which is second in the Ohio Valley Conference in field goal percentage, shot 58.5 percent from the field in an 80-60 win over Southeast Missouri (7-13, 5-9) Friday night at the CFSB Center.

MSU and SEMO, initially scheduled to play Thursday, postponed their matchup to tonight due to winter conditions that left the region covered in ice and sleet.

The Racers set the tone early heating up to shoot 60.7 percent and drained six 3-pointers in the first half. SEMO led only once and that was when Nana Akenten made a jumper on the opening possession of the game.

Ahead, 19-15, the Racers used a 7-0 run to extend their lead to double figures. KJ Williams' layup finished off the surge giving MSU a 26-15 advantage with 6:32 left.

Freshman Dylan Branson buried his second 3-pointer to make it a 33-28 game at the 2:26 mark, but MSU scored nine of the last 11 points of the half to pull ahead, 42-30, at the intermission.

Chico Carter, Jr. led MSU's scorching start with 15 first-half points, missing one time from the field. He made six of seven field goals and had three 3-pointers.

MSU didn't cool off much in the second half and pieced together a 15-2 run en route to completing its two-game sweep of the Redhawks.

Darrious Agnew's layup closed the Racers lead to 63-53 with 7:18 remaining before MSU took its largest lead at 78-55.

MSU made 31-of-53 field goals and was led by Carter, Jr.'s game-high 22 points. KJ Williams followed with 17 points and Tevin Brown added 15. The Racers finished with nine threes, as well.

Jordan Love and Nolan Taylor led SEMO with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Taylor shot 5-of-9 from the field in his return after missing the last four games with a knee injury.

As a team, the Redhawks shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) from the floor and 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from beyond the arc. Additionally, SEMO outrebounded MSU, 34-30.

The Redhawks remain on the road to face Austin Peay Saturday.
