Southeast Missouri State and SEMO Athletics Partner with City of Cape Girardeau to Install New Street Signs Near Main and River Campuses

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – A new town and gown project means drivers in Cape Girardeau will know exactly where they are – Redhawk Country.

This week, the City of Cape Girardeau's old green street signs near campus are being replaced with new white signs featuring black lettering and the Redhawk head logo. The new signs are the direct result of a strong partnership between Southeast Missouri State University, the City of Cape Girardeau and SEMO Athletics.

"We're extremely excited to see the City of Cape Girardeau and the University partner to show off our shared SEMO pride," said Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs Nate Saverino

These new signs, installed as part of Homecoming week, are located at 26 intersections that run contiguous to and through SEMO's main and River campuses. The signs were produced and installed by Main Street Signs, and the project was paid for using Southeast Missouri State licensing royalties.

"This is truly a team effort. We were able to complete this project with no tax, tuition or student fee dollars. The project was paid in full using royalties recouped from sales of officially licensed merchandise," commented Saverino.

"The City of Cape Girardeau has a strong and vital partnership with Southeast Missouri State University," added Cape Girardeau Mayor Bob Fox. "These Redhawk street signs are a great way to show school and community support."

Sign installation will continue throughout this week.
