Jacksonville State leads the all-time series against Southeast Missouri, 17-7. SEMO snapped a five-game losing streak in its series against JSU with a 76-72 win in Cape Girardeau on Feb. 6. The Redhawks go for the season sweep of the Gamecocks Thursday.
Redhwawks Gaining Momentum
Southeast Missouri carries a two-game winning streak to Jacksonville State this week. SEMO has won three of its last four games, all by no more than four points. The Redhawks posted back-to-back wins for the first time this year when they beat UT Martin (74-72, Feb. 13) and SIU Edwardsville (75-71, Feb. 15) at home last week.
Ray Back with Team
After not coaching the last two games due to the flu, head coach Rick Ray made it back to work Tuesday. Keith Pickens was the acting head coach for the UT Martin (Feb. 13) and SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 15) games in Ray's absence.
February Update
The Redhawks are currently 3-2 in February. Southeast Missouri has four games left this regular-season, including three on the road at Jacksonville State (Feb. 20), Tennessee Tech (Feb. 22) and UTÂ Martin (Feb. 29), and one at home vs. Eastern Illinois (Feb. 27).
Final Minute Heroics
Southeast Missouri won each of its last two games in the final minute of play. SEMO overcame a six-point deficit in the last 46 seconds to beat UT Martin, 74-72, on Feb. 13. Two days later, the Redhawks took a 71-69 lead on a layup by Quatarrius Wilson with 48 seconds left and then scored four of the game's last six points to beat SIU Edwardsville, 75-71, on Feb. 15.
Caldwell Sparks Comeback
The Redhawks trailed, 70-64, with 42 seconds left in their recent game against UT Martin (Feb. 13) when Alex Caldwell banked in a 3-pointer, was fouled and completed a 4-point play to pull Southeast Missouri within two. Fourteen seconds later, Caldwell knocked down another 3-pointer to close UTM's lead to 72-71. He finished with 14 points and scored seven in the last 36 seconds of the contest to propel the Redhawks to victory.
Clutch Effort
Southeast Missouri shot 83.6 percent (46-of-55) at the free throw line over its last two games. The Redhawks attempted a season-high 36 free throws in their latest victory over SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 15). SEMO was 29-of-36 in that game. It marked the fourth time this season where the Redhawks shot 30 or more free throws in a game. Six of SEMO's made free throws came in the final seconds over its last two contests.
Hogan Steps Up
Skyler Hogan scored double figures twice to lead Southeast Missouri to a pair of victories last week. Hogan dropped in a career-high 21 points and tied a season-high with four 3-pointers against UT Martin (Feb. 13). He followed that up with 17 points against SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 15). For the week, Hogan averaged 19 points and five rebounds, while shooting 41.9 percent (13-of-31) from the field.
Wilson Notches Season-Best
Quatarrius Wilson scored a season-best 13 points and had nine rebounds against SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 15). Wilson shot 9-of-10 at the free throw line in that game. It marked the eighth time Wilson scored double figures this year.
Looking for First Road Win
Southeast Missouri is 0-13 in true road games this season and has dropped 15-straight road contests dating back to last year. The Redhawks last road win was an 88-79 victory at Eastern Illinois on Feb. 16, 2019.
Close Games
Southeast Missouri has played eight games that were decided by four points or less this season. The Redhawks are 5-3 in those contests.
Three in Double Figures
The Redhawks had three or more players finish with double figures in the scoring column for the 17th time this season vs. SIU Edwardsville (Feb. 15). Skyler Hogan scored 17 points, Alex Caldwell had 15 and Quatarrius Wilson added 13.
All Twenty-Seven
Forward Sage Tolbert is the only player who has started all 27 games for Southeast Missouri this year. Tolbert logged 35-consecutive starts dating back to last season.
