MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri women's soccer team kicked off the 2018 season with a road exhibition match at Billy J. Murphy Track and Soccer Complex at the University of Memphis on Monday. The Redhawks dropped the match 2-0 with the Tigers scoring two in the first period.
The exhibition was split into three 30 minute periods. Memphis score two goals in the first period at the 19th and 20th minute marks.
In the first period, SEMO outshot the Tigers 7-4, but their goalkeeper made outstanding saves on multiple shots by newcomer
Emily Holten.
Holten joins the Redhawks after spending her freshman season at Ole Miss and the SEC.
Maddie Gleeson remained in the goal for the Redhawks through the entire exhibition match.
After the action-packed first period, the remaining two periods fell 0-0. Memphis walked away with the 2-0 win in the exhibition match.
"It was a really good, quick game," Head Coach
Heather Nelson said. "Overall it was a great preparation for non-conference play. Both programs got to look at a variety of lineups."
Southeast will host the Evansville Purple Aces Thursday (Aug. 16) at 6:30 PM at Houck Field. This will begin the 20th season in Southeast Missouri women's soccer history.
