CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.–Southeast Missouri (20-13, 4-2) split a doubleheader with Austin Peay (22-22, 6-2) Friday at Cheryl Holt Field. The Redhawks dropped game one, 5-2, before winning the nightcap, 11-2, in five innings.
SEMO's 11 runs in game two marked its most in an Ohio Valley Conference game this season.
The Redhawks used a seven-run fifth inning to bury the Governors.
Randi Dae Conway walked and went to second when
Brooke Rheinecker reached on an error to start the fifth.
Parker Bandy followed with a double to right field and Conway scored.
Rachel Anderson delivered a single to right scoring both Rheinecker and Bandy.
Abby Tillotson and
Addison Barnouski then added RBI-singles. Tillotson touched home on a sacrifice fly and Conway came up again to double home a run pushing SEMO's lead to 11-2.
SEMO's big fifth inning came after the Redhawks scored once in the first, twice in the third and another run in the fourth.
The Redhawks outhit the Governors, 9-2, with Anderson and Tillotson accounting for two hits each. Anderson went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Tillotson finished at 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
SEMO picked up its 20
th win of the season in the five-inning contest.
Haley Thogmartin (6-5) picked up the win. Thogmartin tied a career-high seven strikeouts. She gave up two hits and two runs in 4.1 innings of work.
APSU scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to key its 5-2 win in game one.
Madison Harris scored on a passed ball and Bandy knocked in
Sarah Messex on a triple for the Redhawks only runs in the top of the fifth.
The Governors outhit SEMO, 12-5.
Bandy went 2-for-3 at the top of the Redhawks lineup to lead the way.
Madeline Krumrey (10-4) took the loss. Krumrey struck out one, walked three and gave up five runs on 11 hits in five innings.
SEMO returns to action when it travels to Murray State for a doubleheader Sunday.
