COOKEVILLE, TENN.- Southeast Missouri (20-23, 14-9) dropped the series to #20 Tennessee Tech (37-5, 19-1) in a 1-6 despite holding the Golden Eagles to no extra base hits.
Trevor Ezell (3-4) doubled in the first inning to give the Redhawks their only run of the day.
All of Tennessee Tech's hits were singles, four of which fell in the infield. The Golden Eagles gained the lead in the third inning with four hits to make it 1-2 Tech. TTU started the half-inning with four consecutive hits. This was followed up with three fly balls.
TTU extended the lead in the fifth inning with three singles and a walk. This was once again followed up by three quick outs to end the inning. The Golden Eagles still pushed the lead to 5-1 during this inning.
Trevor Ezell finished the day with a double, two singles and a walk. His last at-bat was a groundout to the first basemen.
Southeast did not record a hit in the fourth, sixth, seventh or eighth innings of the game.
Devon Wilson singled in the top of the ninth and was later brought home on a
Chase Urhahn single to center field.
SEMO left ten runners on base in the matchup. Three of the ten were in the top of the ninth with the tying run up to bat.
The Golden Eagles snapped SEMO's 6-4-3 double play streak Saturday. The Redhawks had five consecutive games with a double play, but were not given an opportunity to convert a double play on the day.
Christian Vick (5-4) got the loss for the Redhawks after four innings and five runs. Marcus Evey (6-0) got the win with seven innings with five hits and eight strikeouts.
Joey Burris pitched three innings allowing only one run and three hits.
Southeast will try to avoid the sweep tomorrow as they head into the series finale at 1 p.m. CT against TTU.
Carlos Vega is the probable starter for SEMO.
