Alumni Recognition
Nearly 30 Southeast softball alumni are returning to campus for the Redhawks doubleheader against Tennessee State Saturday. Southeast will honor its alumni prior to first pitch.
Senior Day
The Redhawks will honor seniors Claire Wernig, Riley Hayes, Darby Pruett, Madeline Krumrey and Abby Tillotson before first pitch of Sunday's doubleheader against Belmont. Wernig, Hayes, Pruett, Krumrey and Tillotson are suiting up for their final home games at Southeast this weekend.
Series History
Southeast leads its all-time series against Tennessee State, 58-10. The Redhawks own a seven-game winning streak in the series. Southeast and Belmont are tied at 12-12. The Redhawks won four of their last six meetings with the Bruins.
Where They Stand
The Redhawks enter their final weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play ranked fifth in the league standings with an 11-7 mark. Southeast and UT Martin are the only two OVC teams that have played all of their conference games to this point. Once this weekend is over, the other 10 OVC schools will play the remainder of their league contests from May 1-6.
29 Wins
Southeast is 29-18 through 47 games this season. The Redhawks are tied for first in the Ohio Valley Conference in overall wins with Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay. Southeast's 11 OVC victories are second-most behind Jacksonville State (13). The 29 wins are the most in a season under Mark Redburn during his nine years as an NCAA Division I head coach.
On Target
Madeline Krumrey leads the Redhawks with 97 strikeouts through 25 games and 24 starts this season. Krumrey is on pace to reach 100 strikeouts in a season for the first time in her career. She fell four strikeouts shy of that mark in 2017 and six strikeouts short of 100 as a freshman in 2015. Krumrey has struck out five or more in four of her last six starts. Alora Marble was the last Southeast pitcher to finish with 100 or more strikeouts in a season in 2012 (102).
Another Career Accomplishment in Sight
Madeline Krumrey needs three more victories to reach her most number of wins in a season during her Southeast career. Krumrey enters the weekend with a 12-7 record. Her 14 victories in 2017 currently stand as her most in a season. In all, Krumrey has picked up 45 wins in the circle over her four-year college career.
Season Success
Southeast will finish a season with a winning record for the first time in seven years. The Redhawks last winning season was in 2011 when they went 31-30 overall and placed fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference at 17-12. It is the first winning season for Mark Redburn in nine years as an NCAA Division I head coach.
30 in Sight
The Redhawks are only one win away from reaching 30 this year with four games remaining on their regular-season schedule. The last time Southeast won 30 games was in 2011 (31-30). The Redhawks have won 30 or more games in a season a total of 15 times during their program's history. Also, if Southeast gets three more victories, it will establish its most wins in a season in 20 years. The Redhawks have won no more than 31 games since compiling 38 wins in 1998.
Winning Percentage
Southeast currently ranks 64th in the nation in winning percentage with a .617 clip (29-18). It is the third-highest overall winning percentage in the Ohio Valley Conference behind Eastern Kentucky (29-14, .674), Austin Peay (29-15, .659) and Eastern Illinois (29-15, .659).Â
Headed for 100
Game one of Sunday's doubleheader against Belmont will mark center fielder Rachel Anderson's 100th career start. Claire Wernig and Ashley Ellis are the next closest to 100 career starts with 99 and 94, respectively.
Congratulations on 250!
Mark Redburn picked up his 250th career win as a head coach when Southeast beat Morehead State, 2-0, on Apr. 21. Redburn is 253-332 all-time in his 14-year head coaching tenure. That record includes an 87-105 mark as the Redhawks head coach.
Midweek Play
The Redhawks wrapped up midweek play with a road sweep of Saint Louis Wednesday. Southeast beat the Billikens by scores of 7-1 and 1-0. The Redhawks compiled a record of 6-5 in midweek games this season. That mark includes a pair of doubleheader sweeps.
Home Record
Southeast is 9-3 at the Southeast Softball Complex this season. The Redhawks swept Indiana State (Mar. 13), Tennessee Tech (Mar. 23) and SIU Edwardsville (Apr. 13) in doubleheaders and split two games with Missouri (Mar. 21), Jacksonville State (Mar. 25) and UT Martin (Apr. 17). Southeast is 150-139 all-time on its home diamond.
More on the Homefront
The Redhawks nine home victories are their most in a season under head coach Mark Redburn. With a win this weekend, Southeast will reach 10 home wins for the first time since 2012. That year, the Redhawks went 12-5. The 2012Â season was also the last time Southeast had a winning record at home.
Final Regular Season Weekend
Southeast hosts Tennessee State (Apr. 28) and Belmont (Apr. 29), the bottom two teams in the Ohio Valley Conference, during its final weekend of the regular season. TSU (0-14) and BU (3-11) are a combined 3-25 in OVC action this season. Overall, the Tigers are 3-42 and lead the nation in losses. TSU has lost 26 consecutive games.
In Position
The Redhawks could clinch a spot in this year's eight-team Ohio Valley Conference Softball Tournament with a sweep of both Tennessee State and Belmont this weekend. If that happens, Southeast will be in the league's postseason tournament for the second time in four years under head coach Mark Redburn. The Redhawks last made the OVC Tournament in 2015.
Thogmartin Deals
Haley Thogmartin pitched her first shutout of the season and second of her career when she allowed just two hits in a complete game victory over Saint Louis (Apr. 25). Thogmartin recorded four strikeouts and did not allow a walk. She has given up only two runs on six hits in her last 13 innings. The win was Thogmartin's 10th of the season, marking the first time in her Southeast career where she won 10 games.
Anderson on 10-Game Hitting Streak
Center fielder Rachel Anderson enters the week on a 10-game hitting streak, the longest of any Redhawk this season. Anderson has had one hit in each of those 10 contests. She has also reached base in 17-consecutive contests.
Major Defensive Improvement
In 2017, Southeast committed a total of 59 errors and finished eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference with a .960 fielding percentage. Through 47 games this season, the Redhawks have been charged with just 35 errors and lead the league in fielding percentage (.973).
Team Single-Season Rankings
The 2018 Southeast softball team currently ranks among the school's top 10 single-season leaders in nine different categories. The Redhawks are among the program's top 10 teams in fewest errors (1st, 35), fielding percentage (t1st, .973), slugging percentage (7th, .424), on-base percentage (7th, .351), opponent batting average (3rd, .261), saves (t1st, 6), home runs (7th, 34) and strikeouts (6th, 228).
