Softball Season Ends with 3-2 Heartbreaker to #4 Lindenwood in Nine Innings

PEORIA, Ill. – Danielle Franz hit a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give #4 Lindenwood (30-23) a 3-2 win over #5 Southeast Missouri (23-30) Friday in a marathon game at the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
 
Franz drove in Tori Hatton for the winning run ending SEMO's 2026 season.
 
SEMO chased LU starting pitcher Avery Wapp two outs into the game.
 
The Redhawks were strong out of the gate when Kamden Hutton reached on an error and Madison Winkler legged out a bunt single. Aubrie Shore followed with a base hit and Hutton was thrown out at home plate. After Gracie Luna was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Addy Martinie drove in Winkler on a single up the middle to grab SEMO a quick 1-0 lead.
 
After tying the game in the bottom of the third, LU went ahead for the first time on a two-out RBI-triple by Hatton in the bottom of the fifth inning.
 
SEMO tied things up during its ensuing at-bat in the top of the sixth when Aubrie Shore ripped a two-out single to center. Brittany Affolter scored on the play bringing the game to a 2-2 deadlock.
 
The Redhawks, who stranded a season-high 16 baserunners, came up empty with a combined three runners in scoring position during the final two innings. 
 
Maddie Carney (6-13) toAok the tough luck loss. Carney threw three scoreless innings prior to LU's decisive run in the ninth. She allowed just one run on three hits, struck out two and walked three in 3.2 frames.
 
Carney relieved Willow Van Haren who worked the first five innings. Van Haren gave up two runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked two.
 
Ryleigh Owens (10-6) was credited with the win. Owens tossed three shutout innings with one hit allowed, one strikeout and a walk.
 
Both teams finished with 10 hits and the Lions left 11 runners on base of their own.
 
Martinie went 3-for-3 with two walks and one RBI to lead the Redhawks. Shore was 2-for-4 with one RBI and a walk, while Luna and Affolter added two hits each.
 
SEMO wrapped up its 50th season in program history with wins in nine of its last 11 games.
