RICHMOND, Ky.–Southeast Missouri (27-18, 11-7) was swept in a doubleheader by Eastern Kentucky (29-14, 11-1), 5-4, 3-0, Sunday at Gertrude Hood Field.
Emily Corbitt had the game-winning sacrifice fly in the first contest and hit a key two-run home run to help lift EKU to victory in the nightcap.
Corbitt flied out with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give EKU its game one win.
Freshman
Rachel Rook hit two batters and intentionally walked Zoe Mihalicz to load the bases. Corbitt hit Rook's next delivery to right center deep enough to score Paige Murphy.
EKU trailed, 3-0, after four innings before taking its first lead in the bottom of the fifth.
The nation's leader in home runs per game, EKU hit back-to-back solo shots by Destinee Lizzmore and Murphy to quickly pull to within a run. Johnkyria Alston later doubled down the left field line, Hannah Clark walked and Mihalicz singled through the left side. Corbitt followed with a two-RBI single up the middle to put the Colonels ahead, 4-3.
SEMO quickly tied the game in the top of the sixth.
Sarah Messex reached on an infield single and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-4.
The Redhawks had two big two-out hits to build their early lead in the top of the third inning.
Rachel Anderson doubled home
Claudia Gallo and
Parker Bandy singled through the right side to score Anderson and
Mykaela Arellanes.
Murphy McRoberts (9-4) struck out four, walked three and allowed one run on three hits in 4.1 innings to get the win.
Rook (4-4) suffered the loss. She walked one, struck out two and gave up one run and a hit in 2.1 relief innings.
Bandy and
Brooke Rheinecker led SEMO with two hits apiece.
Corbitt hit a two-run home run and EKU scored three times in the fourth inning to get by SEMO in the nightcap.
After Alston scored the first run of the game on a fielder's choice, Corbitt smacked the first pitch of her at-bat over the left center wall to grab the Colonels their lead.
That was all EKU needed to complete its doubleheader sweep.
The Redhawks edged the Colonels, 4-3, in the hit column.
Madeline Krumrey (11-7) took the loss. Krumrey went the distance with three strikeouts. She also walked two and gave up three runs on three hits.
Mollie Paulick picked up the win. Paulick recorded four strikeouts and did not allow a walk in her four-hit complete game shutout.
The Redhawks close out their six-game road stretch with a doubleheader at Saint Louis on Apr. 25.
