MOREHEAD, Ky.–Southeast Missouri (27-16, 11-5) allowed only three hits in a 2-0, 4-1, doubleheader road sweep of Morehead State (22-14, 3-7) Saturday at University Field.
SEMO swept MSU in Morehead for the first time since 2011. The doubleheader sweep marked the Redhawks fifth of the season and fourth in Ohio Valley Conference play.
A two-out, two-RBI single by
Brooke Rheinecker gave
Mark Redburn his 250
thcareer win as a head coach in game one.
Rheinecker's game-winning hit scored both
Madison Harris and
Mackenzie Long in the 2-0 victory, SEMO's fourth shutout of the season.
SEMO outhit MSU, 4-2, with Rheinecker going 2-for2 with two RBI.
Mykaela Arellanes and
Rachel Anderson also added a hit.
Haley Thogmartin (9-6) picked up the win. Thogmartin struck out four, walked two and allowed two hits in six innings.
Freshman
Rachel Rook pitched a perfect seventh inning to get the save.
SEMO broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth inning of game two when
Ashley Ellis walked and scored on a double play.
The Redhawks tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the Eagles away for good.
Abby Tillotson singled,
Claudia Gallo was hit by a pitch and Arellanes singled to load the bases with no outs. Anderson later drew a walk and pinch-runner
Randi Dae Conway scored. Gallo then touched home when
Addison Barnouski grounded out to make it 4-1 in favor of the Redhawks.
Madelyn Krumrey (11-6) threw a one-hitter with four strikeouts in six innings. MSU's only hit of the game came on a home run by Taylor Wheeler in the bottom of the first.
Rook struck out one in the final inning to get her team-high fourth save of the season.
Arellanes went 3-for-4 with a run scored to lead SEMO, which outhit MSU, 8-1, in the nightcap.
Defensively, SEMO did not commit an error in both games. The Redhawks have gone 20 games without an error this year.
SEMO returns to action when it plays a doubleheader at Eastern Kentucky Sunday.
