CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.–
Parker Bandy delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Southeast Missouri (25-16, 9-5) a 1-0 win as the Redhawks split a doubleheader with UT Martin (22-24, 6-8) Tuesday. Southeast regrouped to win the nightcap after dropping game one, 4-0.
Bandy went 3-for-4 to lead SEMO which had five quiet singles through seven scoreless innings.
With one out in the bottom of the eighth,
Mykaela Arellanes collected the only extra base hit of the game when she doubled to center field in front of Bandy. Bandy then hit Hanna Ridolfi's next pitch up the middle and Arellanes scored for the walk-off victory.
Prior to extra innings, the Redhawks had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the first, but came up empty. SEMO stranded two more baserunners in the second, including one in scoring position.
Haley Thogmartin gave SEMO a strong start inside the circle, striking out four in 4.1 scoreless innings.
Freshman
Rachel Rook (4-3) then struck out three and did not allow a hit in the final 3.2 frames to get her fourth win of the season.
The Redhawks outhit UTM, 7-4, in the nightcap.
In game one, Caitlyn Karo tossed a complete game shutout with six strikeouts.
The Skyhawks took an early lead in the top of the first inning when Gracyn McBride doubled home Lauren Myers.
Ahead, 2-0, after adding another run in the sixth, UTM manage to polish off its win with two more runs in the seventh on a two-RBI single by McBride.
UTM outhit SEMO, 11-6, with Myers and Jodie Duncan getting three hits each to lead the way. McBride followed with a 2-for-3, three-RBI effort.
Karo (14-8) scattered six hits and walked one in addition to her six strikeouts.
Madeline Krumrey (10-6) took the loss. Krumrey also went the distance, allowing four runs on 11 hits. She matched a season-high seven strikeouts, as well.
Offensively, SEMO had six different players get a hit.
The Redhawks hit the road to face Morehead State Saturday and Eastern Kentucky Sunday.
