CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri (10-17, 7-4) was swept in a doubleheader against Austin Peay (16-11, 7-4) after dropping back-to-back one-run losses by scores of 6-5 and 7-6 Friday.
APSUÂ used a two-out walk-off double by Garrett Kueber in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat SEMO in game one. Pinch-runner Max Remy then scored the game-winning run on a balk with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning during the nightcap.
SEMO and APSUÂ were tied 4-4 after eight innings before
Trevor Ezell scored an unearned run on a
Cole Bornhop sacrifice fly to put the Redhawks ahead in the top of the ninth.
With two outs and a runner on, Malcolm Tipler singled and came around to score on Kueber's two-RBI hit.
SEMOÂ outhit APSU, 16-9, with Ezell and
Tristen Gagan contributing three hits each.Â
Carlos Vega (3-3) suffered the loss out of the bullpen. Vega gave up three hits and two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
The Redhawks trailed, 6-1, before scoring five runs in the final two innings to tie the game.
Justin Dirden ripped a two-RBI single to right center and later scored on a double by
Wade Stauss.Â
In the top of the ninth, Gagan singled home
Peyton Faulkner and
Danny Wright drew a bases loaded walk to allow Ezell to score the tying run.
With two outs and runners on second and third, Remy scored the decisive run on a balk clinching the series win for the Governors.
Matthew Cook (0-1) was charged with the loss in relief.
Aaron Stretch was on the mound when the balk was called to end the game.
Gagan and Dirden each collected three hits to lead the Redhawks. SEMO finished the nightcap with 10 hits. In addition,
Alex Canty hit his first career home run during a pinch-hit at-bat.Â
SEMO and APSU wrap up their series at 1 p.m., CT, Saturday.
