Redhawks Remain Hot, Sweep Tennessee Tech in OVC Opener

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.Madeline Krumrey matched a season-high seven strikeouts in a complete game victory and Addison Barnouski hit a game-winning two-run home run to lead Southeast Missouri (18-10, 2-0) to a 5-1, 4-3, doubleheader sweep of Tennessee Tech (9-19, 0-2) Friday.

Krumrey allowed just one run and four hits to go along with her seven strikeouts, keying SEMO's game one win.

The Redhawks added two runs in each of the second and third innings to build a 4-0 advantage.

Abby Tillotson started the bottom of the second with a single to center field and went to second on an ensuing base hit by Barnouski. Ashley Ellis followed with a single to right to load the bases. Tillotson scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly in foul territory by Sarah Messex. Parker Bandy then singled home Barnouski.

Tillotson came up again in the third inning and delivered a one-out two-RBI single to center field, scoring both Rachel Anderson and Mykaela Arellanes.

Arellanes later scored SEMO's final run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning.

Krumrey, now 9-3, tossed her team-high sixth complete game. She threw six scoreless innings and brought her strikeout total to 50 this season.

Leigh Ellen Thomas (1-7) fell to her seventh loss. Thomas gave up five runs on nine hits, walked two and struck out nine in six innings of work.

Arellanes, Tillotson and Anderson all had two hits and scored to lead the Redhawks who tallied nine hits.

SEMO struck first again in game two, this time taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Tillotson smacked a one-out double to right center and Anderson scored. Tillotson touched home on Ellis' clutch two-out double after that.

With two on and one out in the top of the sixth inning, Bayli Cruse belted a three-run home run over the wall in left center to give TTU its first lead at 3-2.

SEMO answered during its own at-bat in the bottom half of the inning.

After back-to-back groundball outs, Tillotson reached on an infield single. Barnouski then stepped in and launched her fifth home run of the season over the left field fence to regain a 4-3 cushion for the Redhawks.

Freshman Rachel Rook (1-3) struck out two and retired each of the five hitters she faced in the final 1.2 innings to nail down her first career win.

Kayla Hughes (3-5) took the loss. Hughes worked six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. She also struck out one and walked one.

Tillotson finished the day with another multi-hit performance going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Ellis also added two hits in the nightcap.

SEMO, which has won nine of its last 10 games, hosts defending Ohio Valley Conference Champion Jacksonville State in a 1 p.m., CT, doubleheader Sunday.
