Martin, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri (5-14) fell 8-7 in the opening game of a three-game series with the UT Martin Skyhawks (5-12).

UT Martin took a 5-0 lead in the first including a three-run home run from Ethan Whitley with two outs.

Southeast began to chip away, scoring two runs in the next two innings including a two-run home run from
Justin Dirden in the top of the third, the first of three home runs on the day for the Redhawks.

The Skyhawks scored one in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to two runs at 6-4.
Â
The Redhawks then answered with their third straight two-run inning in the top of the fourth to tie the game at six, including a lead-off home run from
Wade Stauss.

UTM took a one-run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after an RBI double from Tyler Albright.
Â
Southeast was able to tie the game at seven the following inning after a solo home run from
Chase Urhahn.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jordan Stoner hit a one out triple and was able to score off an RBI single from Casey Harford, giving the Skyhawks a one-run lead with just one inning remaining.

Southeast went three up, three down the top of the ninth, giving the victory to UT Martin.

Logan Splat was the starting pitcher on the day and was pulled in the third inning, giving up six earned runs.
Aaron Stretch came in pitched for the next two innings before being replaced by
Joey Burris.

Daniel Bergtholdt came in for Burris in the bottom of the sixth and threw for two innings before being replaced by
Carlos Vega in the bottom of the eighth.

Vega (3-2) was charged with the loss, giving up the game winning run the bottom of the eighth inning.

Konnor Aherin (2-0) got the win for the Skyhawks, giving up zero runs throwing 2.0 innings.

Southeast will play UT Martin in game two of the three-game series tomorrow at 3 p.m.
