CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri women's softball (4-3) captured wins in both of its games Friday to open the Frost Classic Tournament.

Southeast started Friday's doubleheader with a 9-0 victory over Evansville (2-8) in six innings and then trounced Alabama State (4-7), 14-1, in five innings.

Southeast 9, Evansville 0
Â
Southeast cruised past Evansville, 9-0, in six innings in its first contest of Friday's doubleheader. The Redhawks utilized a four-hit, five-run sixth inning to power past the Aces.

Leading Evansville 4-0 in the top of the sixth,
Brooke Rheinecker reached first on an Aces error to start the frame.
Mykaela Arellanes powered a triple to center to score Rheinecker.

Rachel Anderson then grounded to first to score Arellanes and give the Redhawks a 6-0 lead.

Parker Bandy continued the inning when she singled to right. Bandy stole second and then headed to third on a passed ball. She completed the trip around the bases when
Abby Tillotson singled to short.

Ashley Ellis and
Randi Dae Conway crossed home on an Evansville error to give the Redhawks a 9-0 edge.

Alexis Estes (2-0) started in the circle for Southeast. Estes recorded five strikeouts and allowed two hits in four innings of work. Emily Lockhart was the starter for the Aces and allowed three runs in four innings.

The Redhawks struck first with two runs in the top of the third.
Addison Barnouski was hit by a pitch and Tillotson walked to set the scene for Ellis. Ellis doubled to score both Barnouski and Tillotson with two outs on a 1-2 count.

Southeast grew their lead to 3-0 in the fourth. Rheinecker drew a walk, stole second and then moved to third on the throw. Arellanes then sent a base hit to right to score Rheinecker.

Barnouski opened the fifth inning with a walk from Ashleigh Downing (1-2), stole second and then advanced to third on a ground out by Ellis.
Sarah Messex then scored Barnouski with an infield single to second to put SEMO up, 4-0.

Haley Thogmartin came on for Estes in the fifth inning and recorded two strikeouts to earn her second save in 2018.
Arellanes led the Redhawks with two hits and two RBIs. Ellis added two doubles and an RBI.

Southeast 14, Alabama State 1
Â
SEMO continued their momentum in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with a 14-1 win over Alabama State in five innings.
Â
Madeline Krumrey (2-1) started for the Redhawks in the circle and only allowed three hits over five innings. Her lone blemish was a solo home run by Charlene Castro in the second inning. Krumrey added two strikeouts in the win and now has 281 in her Redhawks career.

Rachel Rook came on in relief in the fifth inning and retired the Hornets 1-2-3 with a strikeout. Jean Justine received the loss for Alabama State.

Southeast jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top half of the first inning. The Redhawks drew four walks and scored on three of the base on balls. Arellanes opened the game with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout from Rheinecker and capitalized on a passed ball to score SEMO's first run.

Anderson then touched home after a Hornets error during Tillotson's at-bat.

Messex and Bandy each recorded RBIs via a hit by pitch and walk to move the score to 4-0 in favor of Southeast. Arellanes was also awarded an RBI because of a hit by a pitch on her second at-bat of the inning. Messex also scored courtesy of a passed ball on the same play.

Barnouski walked to reach base in the second frame. After getting into scoring position with a steal, Ellis drove her in with a single to left to put the Redhawks up 7-0.

Messex then increased SEMO's lead to 9-0 when she launched a two-run home run with Ellis on the base paths.

Southeast added another run in the third and then dropped a four spot in the fifth inning to extend its lead to 14-1.

Gallo entered the game for Arellanes and doubled before
Mackenzie Long was hit by a pitch.
Madison Harris then recorded an RBI when she hit a single to left to score Gallo. Harris and Long then each stole second and third respectively.

An error by the Hornets put
Rachael Donald on second and scored both Harris and Long to grow SEMO's lead to 13-1. Donald then stole third and scored Southeast's final run of the game on a ground out from
Darby Pruett.

Nine Redhawks had at least one RBI in the game and 10 crossed home plate in the victory at least once.

SEMO faces IUPUI tomorrow at 11 a.m. and then takes on tournament host, Chattanooga, at 1:30 p.m., CT.
