Tipping Off

The Southeast Missouri women's basketball team hosts Western Illinois Tuesday in their home-opener. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m., CT, at the Show Me Center.

Two Dollar Tuesdays
The Redhawks will offer $2 admission, popcorn, drinks and hot dogs at select home events. There will be two games this season that offer this deal, one women's game and one men's contest. Tonight is the designated women's game.

Series History
Tuesday marks the 12th matchup between the Leathernecks and Redhawks. The all-time series is tied, 6-6, with the Leathernecks winning the last two meetings. The last time WIU and SEMO met was in Macomb, Illinois on December 5, 2017 when Western Illinois won 87-59. 

How We Got Here

Southeast Missouri is off to a 0-3 start with losses at #6 Mississippi State (88-53, Nov. 6), Bradley (85-79, Nov. 10) and Southern Illinois (60-40, Nov. 14). The Redhawks return to action following a six-day layoff. Tesia Thompson leads the team with 19.7 points per game. 

Scouting the Leathernecks
The Leathernecks finished the 2017-18 season with a 22-10 record and 10-4 mark in Summit League play. Western Illinois returns six players, including 2017-18 starter Taylor Higginbotham. Higginbotham averaged 16.6 points and seven rebounds per game to go along with 76 steals last season. Recently, the Leathernecks fell to both Purdue (60-81) and Butler (51-92) on the road. 

Thompson Named Preseason All-OVC Team
Sophomore guard Tesia Thompson was named Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference. In her rookie campaign, Thompson registered 398 points, 51 steals and 164 rebounds. The Memphis, Tennessee native shot a team-high 118-of-163 (.724) at the free-throw line. She averaged 12.8 points in 27.2 minutes per game.

Murphy's Splash
Senior Adrianna Murphy has been making a splash in the record books for Southeast Missouri. Murphy is currently ranked second in program history in assists (497) and third in steals (216). Sherry Mitchell (1987-1991) holds the record for assists (639) and steals (335). 

Last Time Out
Southeast Missouri fell, 60-40, to rival Southern Illinois (Nov. 14). Carrie Shephard made her first start as a Redhawk and recorded 12 points, all from behind the arc. Jocelyn Taylor had a career-high eight rebounds against the Cougars. The Redhawks went 7-for-9 from beyond the arc.
