Men Win OVC Outdoor Title; Women 8th

OXFORD, Ala. – Southeast Missouri's men's track and field team captured its second straight Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championship on Saturday at Choccolocco Park.
The Redhawk men tallied 182 points throughout the dominant weekend. Belmont came in second with 138 points while Eastern Illinois took third with 136. The women's competition was won by EIU with 128 points while SEMO's women finished in eighth with 70.
The men's victory is the eighth overall conference championship, and third in the past four years. Head coach Eric Crumpecker was also named men's outdoor head coach of the year for the third time in his career, and as many in four seasons. It marks Crumpecker's fifth time overall being tabbed with a coach of the year honor.
"We came in and everybody was able to do their jobs and take care of business," said Crumpecker "Every jumper, thrower, and runner came in and did what they were capable of to pull out a strong team effort.
Zach Gordon was named 2017 Men's Championship MVP for his efforts. "He had a tremendous weekend," continued Crumpecker. "He got himself in a good position, had an amazing 200-meter time and shined overall."
Logan Blomquist kicked off the day for the Redhawks by earning his second silver of the weekend, taking second with a personal-record shot put toss at 54' 10.25" (16.72m). Stephen Zagurski also pointed in the event in sixth (51' 9"; 15.77m)
The men's 4x100m team of Andre Bluiett, Gordon, Brannon Wright and Tre Curry took second at 41.17.
Curry would go on to participate in the triple jump, where he placed fourth with a best leap of 46' 10" (14.27m).
Kayla Gutierrez picked up her second medal of the weekend, taking bronze in shot put with a toss of 47' 1" (14.35m)
Richard Vinson claimed gold in javelin with Southeast's 10th best all-time toss of 192' 9" (58.77m). Andrew Ryan took fourth in the event (169' 10"; 51.77m) while Blomquist appeared for his fourth event of the weekend in sixth (161' 5"; 49.20m).
Wesley White captured gold in the 110m hurdles with the third-best time in school history at 14.05. Nick South also registered points in the event with a time of 15.15. White would medal again in the 400m hurdles, taking second at 53.44.
Miya Dorsey claimed gold on the women's portion of the 400m, clocking a time of 1:00.25.
In the 400m, Jordan Barber earned bronze with a new personal-record time of 47.58. Jarred Pasley and Brannon Wright followed in fourth (47.67) and fifth (48.00), respectively. Georgia Tomlinson took sixth on the women's side of the race with a season-best time of 57.56.
Gordon returned to take second in the 100m at a personal-best 10.41. Bluiett also made his second appearance of the day in the event to finish in seventh (10.86).
In the 800m running, Megan Parks finished fourth in the women's portion with a time of 2:13.82 while Jordan Brown took sixth (1:56.21) for the men.
In the 200m, Gordon earned his third medal of the day by taking first-place in the 200m with a time of 20.70 to also rank third all-time in school history. Brannon Wright followed with a time of 20.96 to take second-place and move into sixth in SEMO's history. Georgia Tomlinson took eighth on the women's end at 26.43.
Sydney O'Brien and Kaitlyn Shea clocked times of 17:32.02 and 17:40.47, respectively, to place in fourth and fifth for the 5000m.
Closing out the meet, the SEMO women's 4x400m team of Dorsey, Tomlinson, Parks and Leslie Brooks clocked a time of 4:05.81
With the title in hand, the men's 4x400m team of Wright, Pasley, Kameron Long and Barber tacked on one more to the medal count, taking silver at 3:13.76.
This marks the end of Southeast's 2017 outdoor track and field team season. Thursday, May 18, an announcement will be made regarding those who qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary Round on May 25-27 in Austin, Texas.
