
Second Championship Day Ends As Men Lead; Women 3rd

OXFORD, Ala. – After multiple delays, Southeast Missouri's track and field teams were able to complete the second day of events at the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
After two days of events, the men's team currently leads with 67 points while Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois trail with 60 and 58 points, respectively. The women are in third-place currently (36) behind EIU (59) and Austin Peay (43.33).
The 3000m steeplechase was moved to earlier in the morning, which saw Griffin Bailey lead the Redhawks with a time of 9:46.79. Angie Sumner had the top Redhawk time on the women's end at 11:41.55.
Nick South resumed action in the decathlon, taking silver after finishing the event with 6168 points. His mark's during day two included a personal-best toss in discus of 97' 9" (9.79m). Ty Crowden earned 4969 points during competition.
After two weather delays, competition was able to resume at 4:15 p.m. Zach Gordon placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 22' 11.75" (7m) followed by Tre Curry in eighth (22' 5.75"; 6.85m).
Wesley White took second in the prelims for the 110m hurdles at 14.50. He will be joined by South in the finals tomorrow, who appeared again to clock a time of 15.25. White returned in the 400m hurdles to also advance to tomorrow's event (54.55).
Miya Dorsey in the women's prelim of the 400m hurdles, setting a new personal-record at 1:00.32.
Brannon Wright (48.35), Jordan Barber (48.38) and Jarred Pasley (48.38) took second through fourth in the 400m prelims. Georgia Tomlinson was the lone Redhawk on the women's end, qualifying for tomorrow's final in fourth at 56.03.
Tomlinson had a second successful showing in the 200m, advancing in seventh-place (24.83).
Gordon made a second appearance to earn the top 100m time of 10.56. Andre Bluiett will also run in tomorrow's final after finishing at 10.90 in seventh.
In his third race, Gordon claimed the top spot for tomorrow's 200m after clocking a time of 21.08. Close behind with a time of 21.14 was Wright, who advances in second.
Both Kayla Gutierrez (157' 2") and Logan Blomquist 166' 675" (50.76m) earned silver in discus. Stephen Zagurski also was able to earn points on the men's end, claiming fifth-place with a distance of 157' .5" (47.86m).
In the 800m, Megan Parks moved on the next round after a fifth-place finish (2:12.36). Jordan Brown took sixth in the men's portion of the race at 1:53.40.
Sierra Maddox placed third in pole vault, earning bronze with a height of 11' 8" (3.56m).
The Redhawk men followed in strong fashion to close out the meet in big way, taking first through fourth in men's pole vault. Christian Locke led the group with a height of 16' 10.75" (5.15m), nearly besting the OVC Championship meet mark. Dylan Rush followed in second (15' 9"; 4.80m) while Nick South claimed the final podium position (15' 3"; 4.65m). Tyler Jourdan claimed five more points in fourth place with his height of 14' 9" (4.50m).
Tomorrow will mark the final day of competition for the 2017 OVC Outdoor Championships. Competition is scheduled to resume at 11 a.m. for field events and 1 p.m. for track, pending weather conditions.
