CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Former Southeast Missouri women's basketball student-athlete Jordan Hunter has signed a professional contract with the Adelaide Link Lightning in the Women's National Basketball League in Australia.
The WNBL is the superior professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL).
Hunter played two seasons for Southeast Missouri (2012-14). The 5-7 point guard is a native of Papakura, New Zealand. In two seasons, Hunter averaged 8.8 points per game, dished out a total of 214 assists, and picked up 53 steals. She shot 38 percent from the field and 81.9 percent from the free-throw line. Her 83.3 free-throw percentage in 2012-13 ranks eighth on Southeast's single-season top-10 list. She averaged 30.5 minutes per game and started all 58 games she played in.
The 26-year old played last summer at Sturt Sabres in Australian Premier League. In three games she had 12.3 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, 3.3 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game. Hunter also played for ACM Lady Hawks in New Zealand league that season. Hunter was voted Australia's ket.com All-New Zealand WBC First Team in 2015.
She has been also a member of New Zealand international program for several years. Hunter has regularly played for New Zealand senior team since 2009 and previously for U20 National Team back in 2006.
Hunter also represented New Zealand at the Olympic Games Additional Qualifying Round in Nantes, France this year.
