CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southeast Missouri's women's tennis team competed at the Carbondale Invitational on Sunday.

"We had a really strong showing today with some formidable teams," said head coach Mary Beth Gunn. "I am very proud of our performance. It laid a good foundation for our fall matches."

The freshmen really stood out today, combining for six total victories and three titles.

Oleksandra Doroshenko led the way for the Redhawks, winning a championship in both singles and doubles. In singles play, Doroshenko took on host Southern Illinois' Meagan Monaghan, taking the match, 6-2, 6-2. She then faced off against Eastern Illinois' Emily Pugachevsky to win the title, 6-1, 6-3. Later, she paired with Ana Canahuate-Torres to sweep both opponents, 6-0, in the flight five championship.

Kseniya Zonova won the other title, winning two three-set thrillers in flight three. She battled hard in the championship match, falling behind early in the tiebreaker, before winning the final set, 12-10.

"Zonova was a stand out today," Gunn continued. "She handled the pressure very well and after getting down in the tie break, she fought back to take the title."

Torres also won a singles title, winning match one handily, 6-1, 6-4, over SIU. In the championship, she took on Arkansas State, winning a hard fought three-set match.

Mila Majtan finished the day winning consolation finals in both doubles and singles. She partnered with Annisa Warasanti, dropping the first match to eventual champion SIU, 6-3. They were able to take care of business in the final to defeat Eastern Illinois, 6-4. In singles play, SIU's Yana Golovkina beat Majtan, 6-2, 6-0. She handily beat Victoria Roberts in the final, 6-3, 6-2.

Anais Emelie and Joanne Hollings also competed in the tournament.

Southeast will resume action Sept. 23 at the Central Arkansas Invitational.
