Nine Southeast Missouri track & field student-athletes will compete in the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round, set to begin Thursday. The three-day event will be hosted by the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.
The top-48 student-athletes in each event are accepted into the preliminary round. The top-12 performers from each event at each of the two preliminary sites advance to the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 8-11.
Chante Mosby, Cheyanne Tunti, Kevin Farley, Jacob Kent, Chris Martin, and Jarred Pasley will represent the Redhawks in individual competition this year. Jordan Barber, Brandon Chunn, and Brannon Wright will also join Pasley to team up for the Men's 4x400m relay.
Tunti will be competing in the 400m dash while Mosby will take part in the high jump.
Farley qualified for three separate events and will appear in the shot put, discus and the hammer throw. Pasley (400m), Kent (long jump) and Martin (triple jump) will round out the men's individual competitors.
After missing the 2015 Outdoor season, Farley returns for his fourth NCAA prelim appearance. His top preliminary finish was in 2013, taking eighth and advancing to the National Championships where he placed seventh.
Martin will be competing at the preliminary rounds for his third straight season. Last year, he placed fifth in prelims to advance to the NCAA Championships and finish 21st in the nation.
