Men Win OVC Outdoor Title, Women Fourth

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri's track & field teams finished competition Saturday evening at the two day 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The men's team took complete control during the second day, earning 199.5 points by the end of competition. Eastern Illinois trailed in second, earning 140.5 points. After opening the day in fifth, the women finished in fourth with 79 points as EIU's women won with 163.
Head coach Eric Crumpecker was also named OVC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year. It is his second time receiving the award and third overall coach of the year honor.
"It was a great weekend for the entire program," commented Crumpecker. "We could not have asked for a better day than what we had on Friday and followed it up with a good final day. I am proud of the way everyone competed. It was a great day to be a Redhawk!"
Taylor Coffelt (4877 points) and Macy Ritter (4774) finished first and second in the women's heptathlon. Coffelt capped off her weekend by taking the top distance in javelin and time in the 800m run. Ritter was first overall in the long jump while Coffelt took second.
Christopher Davis (6017 points) took second while Duncan Ross (5636) finished in fifth during the men's decathlon.
Chris Martin captured gold in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 15.74m.
Kevin Farley captured first in the shot put with a toss measuring 17.76m. Paden Wachter placed eighth on the women's end with a distance of 12.53m.
Farley went on to claim his third gold medal in the championships by placing first in hammer throw as well with a throw of 60.00m. Jason Walker (55.59m) and Stephen Zagurski (52.23m) also earned points by finishing in fourth and sixth, respectively.
Wachter returned for the women's hammer, claiming seventh at 46.73m.
The Redhawks men's 4x100m team led off day two's track events with a first place finish. Haile Wilson, Brannon Wright, Zach Gordon and Martin clocked a time of 40.54 seconds. The women's squad of Mariam Ajiroba, Chelsea Miller, Kayla Heidelberg and Cheyanne Tunti followed with a sixth-place finish with a time of 47.69.
Marc Maton finished the 1500m run in 3:49.16 for first place.
Jarred Pasley clocked the top time of 46.79 seconds in the 400m dash finals. Jordan Barber (47.94), Wright (47.94) and Brandon Chunn (48.26) followed, taking third through fifth, respectively.
On the women's end of the 400m, Tunti set a new personal record time of 54.80 to take silver.
Wilson returned to take second in the 100m dash, finishing with a time of 10.71 seconds. Afterwards, Ajiroba took sixth in the women's running, clocking a time of 12.23.
Megan Parks finished the women's 800m with a time of 2:11.62 for bronze. Jordan Brown ran a 1:52.91 on the men's end to take fifth.
In the women's 400m hurdles, Miya Dorsey finished sixth at 1:02.40.
Wright made a third appearance to earn bronze in the 200m dash (21.61). Gordon joined him in the race, taking fourth at 22.05.
Angela Sumner ran a 17:42.00 to finish seventh in the 5000m run.
Wright, Chunn, Barber and Pasley teamed up to claim gold in the 4x400m relay, finishing the race in 3:11.45. The women's 4x400m team of Jovanie Spears, Dorsey, Parks and Tunti finished the day by taking fourth with a time of 3:48.67
Redhawks who qualify for the NCAA West Preliminaries will compete May 26-28 in Lawrence, Kansas. Those who are successful will continue on to Eugene, Oregon to take part in the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on June 8-11.
