Opening Day of Hilltopper Relays Draws to Close

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Southeast Missouri's track & field teams ended the opening day of the Hilltopper Relays on Friday afternoon at Western Kentucky University.
Angela Sumner set a new personal and school record in the women's 3000m with a time of 10:10.12 in her first-place finish. Kaitlyn Shea was close behind in second, finishing at 10:11.07. Other runners included Sydney O'Brien with a time of 10:38.41, Natalie Kopplin with a new personal best of 10:43.47 and Lindsey Seabaugh at 11:07.75.
Craig Munie finished the men's portion with a new Redhawks season-best of 8:37.50. Dan Plunkett finished in 8:57.68, Jace Mortimer in 9:15.33, and Shane Brown with a time of 9:18.38.
Kevin Farley placed first in shot put with a toss measuring 18.05m. Stephen Zagurski set a new personal record with a mark of 15.09m.
Both competed again in the hammer throw, as Farley finished third with a throw of 59.67m. Zagurski took seventh with a distance of 52.57. Jason Walker also threw in the event, earning a mark of 48.77m.
Aaliah Herron took fourth in the women's shot put with a distance of 13.79m. Paden Wachter threw in the event as well with a throw measuring 12.33m. Wachter competed a second time in the hammer throw, earning a mark of 45.28m.
In pole vault, Sierra Maddox earned a height of 3.56m.
The Hilltopper Relays will resume Saturday morning with field events at 9 a.m. and track events at noon.
