Dates: Friday-Saturday, March 18-19, 2016
Host: Rhodes College
Location: Memphis, Tenn.
Start Times (CT): Friday - 3:00 p.m.; Saturday – 10:00 a.m.
The Southeast Missouri track & field teams will kick off the 2016 outdoor season Friday at the Rhodes Invitatonal in Memphis, Tennessee.
The field events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with men's and women's hammer throw, triple jump and javelin. Friday's running events of 5000m, 4x800 and 10,000m will begin approximately at 5:30 p.m.
Recent History – Indoor Recap
Last outdoor season, the Redhawks men's team captured second-place while the women's team finished in fourth. More recently, the men's team claimed second and the women finished sixth at the OVC Indoor championships.
The indoor championship began with Taylor Coffelt placing third in the women's pentathlon. Jacob Kent also had success on the first day, taking second in long jump and setting a new personal best at 7.41m. Shortly afterwards, Stephen Zagurski would also medal, taking third in the weight throw.
On the second day of competition, Jarred Pasley and Jordan Barber finished first and second in the 400m dash, respectively. Jordan Brown and Kameron Long followed by taking second and third in the 800m run. Haile Wilson also sprinted to success, claiming first in the 55m dash. In the final men's track event, Brannon Wright and Brandon Chunn joined Barber and Pasley to take gold in the 4x400m relay.
In field events, Sierra Maddox took second in pole vault while Christian Locke closed the day by taking gold on the men's side. Duncan Ross was also able to claim third in the event.
Early Outdoor Efforts
Kevin Farley looks to reclaim his spot atop the throwers rankings. Before missing the 2015 outdoor season, Farley was crowned conference champion for indoor weight throw and shot put.
Already this season, Farley was joined by freshman thrower Andrew Ryan at the Jaguar Opener in Mobile, Alabama. Farley was able to set a personal best in the discus at 54.55m while Ryan set a collegiate career opening mark in javelin at 50.55m.
Looking Ahead
The Redhawks will continue their outdoor season the following weekend, March 25-26, at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
