EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Southeast Missouri (1-8) dropped a 5-2 decision to Evansville (6-10) Sunday.
Viviana Ortiz and
Emilia Montenegro started off the day for Southeast, winning their second-straight doubles match over UE's Doreen Crasta and Leah Helpingstine, 6-1, at No. 3. The Purple Aces, however, would claim victory in the next two matches to win the point.
Mariya Kostiuk and
Anais Emelie fell, 6-1, to Kennedy Craig and Katie Delgado at No. 1.
Mila Majtan and
Annisa Warasanti battled at No. 2, but dropped their match to Marina Moreno and Andjela Brguljan by a score of 6-4.
The Redhawks won the first two matches in singles as Ortiz (No. 6) and Kostiuk (No. 1) beat their opponents in straight sets. Ortiz tallied a clean sweep over Helpingstine, 6-0, 6-0, while Kostiuk bested Moreno, 6-2, 6-1. Majtan took Delgado to three sets but fell, 4-6, 7-5, 6-10, at No. 2. Emelie played Brguljan close at No. 4, but was forced to withdraw from the match early, giving the Purple Aces the point. Warasanti (No. 3) and Montenegro (No. 5) closed out singles play for the Redhawks.
Southeast returns to action during its spring break at Maryville University Tuesday.
