Consecutive Athlete of the Week Honors
Jarred Pasley captured his second Ohio Valley Conference Track Athlete of the Week honor in as many weeks. Pasley earned three top 10 finishes at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational.
His ninth-place finish in the 400m dash set the top OVC time this season. Pasley's time of 48.53 currently ranks 52nd in the nation. Pasley also took ninth in the 200m with a time of 21.89, presently fourth in the conference this year. Running a leg of the 4x400 meter relay with , Pasley helped Southeast earn seventh with a time of 3:12.71.
Record Breakers
The Redhawks distance medley squads shined last Friday at the Meyo Invitational, both breaking Southeast indoor records. Jordan Brown, Cole Davis, Kameron Long, and Marc Maton joined forces to finish second with a time of 9:55.52. Their effort broke the previous record of 10:00.71 set in 2012. Their time ranks first in the conference and 29th nationally. On the women's side, Kaitlyn Shea, Megan Parks, Miya Dorsey and Angela Sumner finished with a time of 11:58.34, breaking the decade old mark of 12:03.08 (2003). The record breaking finish ranks third in the OVC this season.
Other Conference Marks
Haile Wilson and Ayonna Cartwright both rank third in the men's and women's 60m dash with times of 6.82 and 7.60, respectively. Cheyanne Tunti ranks third in the OVC after her 56.09 run in the 400m at the Meyo Invitational. Maton owns the top conference time in the mile run with an adjusted time of 4:09.27. He also holds the third-best 3000m time this year with 8:18.18. The men's 4x400m relay team of Pasley, Jordan Barber, Brandon Chunn and Brannon Wright leads the OVC with a time of 3:12.71
In field events, Christian Locke boasts the top mark in pole vault (16'6.75"). Chris Martin increased his OVC-leading triple jump mark to 51'1". Martin ranks 31st in the nation. Stephen Zagurski now holds the top distance in the weight throw, earning a distance of 56'1" last weekend. Jason Walker's weight throw of 55'10.25" stands third in the conference. Kayla Gutierrez holds a commanding lead in the women's weight throw with her toss of 65'6.75". The closest mark to that in the OVC is 58'8.5". Her toss also places her 21st overall nationally.
Looking Ahead
Southeast will host the Redhawks invitational on Friday, Feb. 19 at the Student Recreation Center-North to close out the regular indoor season. The OVC Indoor Championships will take place the following weekend at Tennessee State University.
