Redhawks End Non-Conference Play with 75-47 Victory

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's basketball (6-7) brought its non-conference schedule to a close Monday with a 75-47 win over Alabama A&M (2-6).
 
A 30-point third quarter for Southeast broke open what was a relatively tight game at halftime. The Redhawks shot 63 percent in the frame.
 
Hannah Noe set a new season high in scoring, finishing with 21 points. It was her first 20-point game of the season and second of her career. Noe drained five 3-point buckets on Monday. Her 21 points was one shy of tying a career best. She extends her double-digit point streak to five games which is currently the best active streak on the squad.
 
Ashton Luttrull was the only other Redhawk to reach double-figure scoring on Monday, tallying 12 total points.
 
Bri Mitchell fell just shy of recording a triple-double in the game. The senior dished out a career-best 13 assists, the first double-digit assist game of her career. She finished the game with seven points and a career-best eight rebounds.
 
For the second game in a row, Olivia Hackmann was Southeast's leading rebounder, finishing with nine.
 
The Redhawks shot a very respectable 43 percent from the floor including hitting nine 3-pointers and going 8-for-10 from the free-throw line. Southeast also outrebounded the Lady Bulldogs 48-32. SEMO fell just shy of a season high in assists, finishing with 24.
 
The opening quarter was a closely fought one with three ties and the lead changing hands three times. Each team found leads of only three points in the first 10 minutes. The Lady Bulldogs used their final possession to their advantage, tacking on a last-second jumper to capture a 16-14 lead after the quarter.
 
Noe's two 3-point buckets was enough to lead the team in the first quarter with six points.
 
The Lady Bulldogs capitalized on seven first-quarter SEMO turnovers for 10 points.
 
Down by a field goal early in the second, Southeast turned out seven-straight points, five consecutive coming from Noe, to go up by five in the first half of the season quarter. After a Lady Bulldog field goal, Luttrull recorded five-straight points of her own to give SEMO its largest lead of the game in the first half, 28-20. The first half ended with three-minute scoring droughts on both ends of the court but SEMO came out on top, 30-24.
 
The Redhawks held the Lady Bulldogs to just eight points in the second quarter. Southeast forced eight turnovers in the second resulting in nine points.  
 
Noe extended her double-digit point streak to five games with 11 first-half points, draining three 3-pointers and hitting her two free-throws. Olivia Hackmann was the game leader with six rebounds in the half.
 
Luttrull had seven first-half points and had already tied a career-best four steals. Likewise, Deja Jones also tied a career-best three steals just in the opening half; she finished the game with four. As a team, Southeast had 10 steals in the first 20 minutes. It's only the third time this season the Redhawks had double-digit steals.
 
A 17-point run for Southeast Missouri highlighted the game's third quarter. In the end, Southeast came out on top in the frame, 30-11, falling one point shy of tying a season-high for points in a quarter. Southeast led 60-35 going to the final quarter.
 
Noe registered 10 third-quarter points to capture a new season-high for the junior with 21 points through three quarters of play. Mitchell dished out seven assists in the frame, tallying a new career high with 12 assists through three quarters.
 
Mitchell and Jones each put up four points as Southeast continued to hold A&M at bay in the fourth and final quarter. The scoring concluded with 1:27 to play on a fast break layup by Adrianna Murphy, 75-47 Redhawks.
 
Jameica Cobb led the way for the Lady Bulldogs finishing with 18 points and tying a team-best five rebounds.
 
Southeast Missouri will open Ohio Valley Conference play at the Show Me Center on Dec. 29 against Tennessee Tech. The Redhawks and Golden Eagles will tip off the OVC slate at 7:15 p.m.
