CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri women's tennis team hosted the Redhawk Invitational on Saturday.
SEMO led off the day against Division II opponent William Woods University. The Redhawks won all but one match.
In doubles, Southeast claimed all three matches.
Isabella Krupa and
Oleksandra Doroshenko teamed up at the top of the lineup, taking their match, 6-2, over Smith and Shuraeva. At the No. 2 position,
Anais Emelie and
Kseniya Zonova faced off against Salinas and Cesar, winning the match, 6-2.
Mila Majtan and
Annisa Warasanti (No. 3) knocked off Sagalai and Simoniti, 6-3.
During singles play, the Redhawks won all but one match. Zonova (No. 1), Doroshenko (No. 3), Warasanti (No. 6) and
Joanne Hollings (No. 7) each won their matches in straight sets. In the No. 2 position, Krupa took Salinas to three sets, winning the match, 6-4, 0-6, 10-4.
Ana Canahuate-Torres (No. 5) picked up her team-leading seventh singles victory of the year, winning a three-set thriller over Braack, 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), (10-7).
SEMO had a bye at noon, while WWU and UT Martin competed against one another. Martin swept the Owls in both doubles and singles.
Southeast took on UTM to close out the tournament. They picked up one doubles victory and two singles wins.
Emelie and Zonova won in the No. 2 position over Naito and Tari, 6-3. The pairings of Krupa/Doroshenko and Majtan/Warasanti each fell, 6-2, at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively.
In singles play, Doroshenko (No. 3) and Warasanti (No. 7) won in straight sets. Krupa (No.2) and Majtan (No. 4) took their opponents to a tiebreaker but ultimately fell in the end. The rest of the lineup fell in straight sets.
The Redhawks will resume fall play at the ITA Regional Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Oct. 20. Â
